by Gitte Karlshøj Weavers in West Zealand and The Weavers’ House K12-13 Weaving Demonstrations First Session Participants will visit 3 workshops over an hour (15 minutes per visit)

Workshop 1 Weaver Flemming Grundtvig Lundholm - Weaving damask on an ordinary handloom

Workshop 2 Weaver Madeleine Jude, UK - Computer Dobby Loom and weaving software Demonstration of how to weave many different patterns on the same warp.

Workshop 3 Weaver Anne Marie Pedersen, The Weaver’s House - Demonstration of Flying8 Loom – now with soundless shuttle. Loom developed by weaver Andreas Müller, Germany

13.30- Weaving Debate 14.30 Topic: WEAVING TOGETHER Lisbeth Tolstrup, designer, journalist and art historian will chair the debate.

There will be four presentations from different contemporary perspectives on weaving in Denmark, followed by questions and comments from the audience. Chair Lisbeth Tolstrup will draw together the threads of the discussion, making sure that we leave the debate with a clearer picture of the state of the weaving in Denmark today.

The four short presentations of 10 minutes max. will be given by:

1) The Weavers’ House - How community, cultural heritage and the development of contemporary designs can serve as a lever for the creation of a new cultural tourism platform.

2) Grete Botne, Østvendsyssels Weaving Society - Community and opportunity with the establishment of several weaving studios in Østvendsyssel

3) Weaving Society - The community and the restoration of old weaving studios.

4) Weaving Society of Denmark - The association’s efforts to create community, development and awareness of a common interest that must be preserved.

16.00- Historic Looms 16.45 Should looms be preserved? Old Danish looms with cultural historical value often end up on the bonfire. What can we do to save these looms and preserve important cultural heritage and knowledge? Be part of a nationwide campaign to save these historic looms!
