Loom developed by weaver Andreas Müller, Germany 13.30- Weaving Debate 14.30 Topic: WEAVING TOGETHER Lisbeth Tolstrup, designer, journalist and art historian will chair the debate. There will be four presentations from different contemporary perspectives on weaving in Denmark, followed by questions and comments from the audience. Chair Lisbeth Tolstrup will draw together the threads of the discussion, making sure that we leave the debate with a clearer picture of the state of the weaving in Denmark today. The four short presentations of 10 minutes max. will be given by: 1) The Weavers’ House - How community, cultural heritage and the development of contemporary designs can serve as a lever for the creation of a new cultural tourism platform. 2) Grete Botne, Østvendsyssels Weaving Society - Community and opportunity with the establishment of several weaving studios in Østvendsyssel 3) Weaving Society Bornholm - The community and the restoration of old weaving studios. 4) Weaving Society of Denmark - The association’s efforts to create community, development and awareness of a common interest that must be preserved. 15-16 Weaving Demonstrations – Second Session Participants will visit 3 workshops over an hour (15 minutes per visit) Workshop 1 Weaver Flemming Grundtvig Lundholm - Weave damask on an ordinary handloom Workshop 2 Weaver Madeleine Jude, UK - Computer Dobby Loom and weaving software Demonstration of how to weave many different patterns on the same warp. In recent years more and more municipalities have used ESCO-contracts to retrofit existing public buildings, and to make them more energy efficient. At the moment 30 municipalities (of the 98 municipalities in Denmark) are involved in, or preparing, ESCO contracts. Nevertheless, ESCO-contracting still faces many challenges on the Danish market, as there is a widespread skepticism towards the concept amongst many stakeholders. The purpose of this paper is to discuss the various experience gained so far by municipalities use of ESCO-contracting, the different approached to ESCO-contracting being used in practice, as well as the different viewpoints drivers and barriers behind the development.

Introduction While salinization is one of the major threats to agriculture worldwide, it is unevenly spread with the biggest impacts observed in arid and semi-arid zones as well as around low-lying delta areas. Each scenario brings a particular vulnerability. Arid regions are home to precarious communities for whom any further worsening of soils could lead to starvation. Delta regions, by contrast, traditionally have highly fertile soils, large populations and abundant food which has seen them develop international economies, supported by major transport infrastructure. However, fresh ground water resources have been intensively exploited for domestic, agricultural and industrial purposes (Van Weert et al., 2009), therefore, future fresh water exploitation is expected to increase due to population and economic growth, agricultural intensification and loss of surface water resources due to contamination (Ranjan et al., 2006). In this chapter we begin with a review of previous attempts to map salinization globally, and specifically in the European context. We then drill down to case study regions in the North Sea Region to examine more closely the of degrees of salinization and danger of degradation of farmland for coastal areas. Although the data is incomplete and not always comparable at the European level, local case studies are included to present examples of the nature of the threats across different regions facing different types of salinization threats.
