Baltimore Ravens San-Francisco 49Ers
San-Francisco 49ers Baltimore Ravens VS. February 3, 2013 Mercedes-Benz Superdome New Orleans, Louisiana 49ers David Akers Akers was signed by the San Francisco 49ers to a $9 million, three-year contract on July 29, 2011. He kicked a 59-yard field goal just before halftime in a preseason game against the New Orleans Saints on August 12, 2011. On September 18, 2011, he kicked a 55-yard field goal against the Dallas Cowboys, setting a record for the longest field goal made at Candlestick Park. Akers broke the 49ers’ record for most points scored in a season in a 20-3 win over the Pittsburgh Steelers in a Monday Night Football matchup on December 19, 2011. The record was formerly held by the 49ers’ Hall of Fame wide receiver, Jerry Rice. In that same game against the Seahawks, Akers broke the all-time record for field goals in a season, surpassing Neil Rackers’ 40 in 2005. On January 1, 2012, Akers broke the NFL record for most points by a kicker in a single season against the St. Louis Rams; he finished with 166 points. In this game, he also extended his NFL record for most field goals made in a single season, finishing with 44, and threw for a touchdown on a fake field goal. Akers made his sixth Pro Bowl at the end of the season. On September 9, 2012, Akers tied the NFL record for the longest field goal by kicking a 63-yard field goal off the crossbar against the Green Bay Packers at Lambeau Field. -

I can’t believe it has been six weeks,” Susana Sabate, a mother of 3-year-old twin boys, said in Barcelona. “My boys are very active. Today when they saw the front door and we gave them their scooters, they were thrilled.” Wary of igniting new infection flare-ups, nations have been taking divergent paths on how and when to reopen their econo- mies after weeks at a standstill. The official death toll from the virus topped 200,000 worldwide, with 2.9 million confirmed infections, according to a tally by Johns Hopkins University. 49ERS HEAD COACH KYLE SHANAHAN (Thoughts on Winning
49ERS HEAD COACH KYLE SHANAHAN (Thoughts on winning the game by just inches…) “I have experience from the Atlanta game, so I wasn’t ready to celebrate anything. It kind of ruined my celebration to tell you the truth, I wanted to wait until I saw the scoreboard. I saw he did not get in. Then everyone tried to tackle me but I was waiting to see how much time was left on the clock. I wanted to take a knee. We would have taken a safety if there was one second, so there’s no chance to fumble. It was a little hectic there at the end but once the whistle officially blew, I felt very good.” (How do you feel about your team going into the playoff as the number one seed…) “I feel real good about it. We worked for this the whole year. The goal going in was just to get into the tournament. To get in there with the number one seed is very good. We were going to be ready to deal with whatever we had to tomorrow, whether we had to go play three games. I know we are much happier that we can stay home now and that your two games away from the big one. We are going to enjoy this bye week. I’m very proud of the guys. We have had to win a lot of different ways this year. I feel like we have done it every way possible and then we find a new way to do it. -

Opportunity on the Road to Success by Logan Underwood
Opportunity on the Road to Success By Logan Underwood In the sea of society, many drift under the influence of powerful undercurrents of reality. People are shaped by the colour of our skin, the places we grew up, and the wealth of our parents. These factors have a profound impact on the direction in which people travel in their lives. The currents that control our lives are powerful because they pull the strings that define our paths. They change the scenery and the obstacles by putting some individuals on a pedestal while putting others on a much more challenging journey. Societal norms of nepotism and connections disproportionally place minorities at a disadvantage from their white colleagues as they are promoted. In 2003 the National Football League (NFL) instituted the Rooney Rule, which required one minority to be interviewed during the head coach hiring process (Carroll, 2018). The rule was put in action to make the number of minority coaches more representative of a sport that's players were 69.0% African American (Lapchick, 2019). As the most recent season coaching hiring season concluded, it became clear that the number of minority coaches with jobs would decrease significantly. Figure 1 (Payne, 2019) In the 2020 season, it will be the second season that 12.5% of coaches will be of colour. It is the lowest two-season stretch since the Rooney Rule was adopted in two thousand three (Lapchick, 2019). The 2019 season was important in determining the schematic direction of the league's coaches. Coaches Marvin Lewis, Todd Bowles, Steven Wilks, and Vance Joseph, who were all African American, were fired. -
