The Finger Lakes Region of Central New York is a premier tourist destination. The region, well known for its lakes, attractions, auto racing and festivals, is New York’s largest wine producing region. With over 100 wineries and vineyards centered around Seneca, Keuka, Cayuga and Canandaigua Lakes (to name a few), the area is the perfect destination for wine enthusiasts and their families. The Finger Lakes area is home to the following Wine Trails: The Seneca Lake Wine Trail is located in the heart of New York’s Finger Lakes Region overlooking the waters of Seneca Lake. The Seneca Lake Wine Trail is the largest and most active wine trail in New York State and includes over 36 wineries, a distillery and breweries. Seneca Lake wineries are known for producing some of the finest Rieslings. One event that is sponsored by the Seneca Lake Wine Trail is The Riesling to Visit Passport Program, which launches in May (Riesling month) and runs through August. The Passport offers complimentary wine tastings at 26 wineries. A second event, now in its 19th year, is Deck the Halls, which celebrates the beginning of the holiday season on Seneca Lake. This annual event is held over two weekends at the end of November and beginning of December. This wine trail is one of the smaller trails and one of the more scenic of the Finger Lakes, making it “just right" for a 1-day trip; it’s only 41 miles to travel the trail from Fairport, New York to Canandaigua, New York to Naples, New York. Two annual wine-themed events include the Wine Festival and Wine on Ice. The Wine Festival features over 500 different wines from approximately 90 New York State wineries. The Wine Festival is held in July at Watkins Glen International in Watkins Glen, New York. Wine on Ice is a winter sampling of the Finger Lakes’ best in wine, food, shopping & entertainment. Wine on Ice is held in January at First Arena, Elmira, New York.
