In Rouen she discovered the same magic of the Normandy landscape that inspired the great names in Impressionism - Monet, Renoir and Sisley. Isabelle, brought up in a family who for generations adored art, was a sensitive child and instinctively drawn to beauty. Her great- grandmother, Countess Martine de Béhague, was one of the great art patrons of the 1920s. Her splendid collection included the works of Leonardo de Vinci, Titian, Durer and Monet; these works can now be enjoyed at the Louvre. Art and nature very quickly occupied a predominant place in the life of young Isabelle and when she was only 15 years old, she was accepted to the famous Beaux-Arts in Rouen. This was an honor rarely bestowed on someone so young and serves as an early indication of her talent. In 1976, Isabelle met Albert Malet, the last Impressionist painter of the School of Rouen. Malet had been a student of Robert Antoine Pinchon and he would become Isabelle’s mentor for the next ten years. Isabelle continued her formal education at the Académie Julian and l’École des Beaux-Arts in Paris, where she was first in her class. Isabelle returned to Rouen, and began exhibiting throughout France. Critics praised her unique style and more exhibitions followed for the artist. Malet, who had always been aware of her gift as an artist, designated Isabelle as his successor. Upon his death in 1986, Isabelle assumed his position as Maïtre de l’École de Rouen. Thus carrying the responsibility of passing on the knowledge and technique of one of the last French schools of art. Isabelle is a true disciple of en plein air, which means painting outside in all weather conditions to more fully sense the influence of changes in the atmosphere, the vibrations of the air and the varying light. Therefore this technique allows her to seize and translate onto the canvas ephemeral moments. Never betraying the spirit of her work, Isabelle can be found, often with her students, traveling France looking for the light which illuminates her canvases dense with warm colors. Isabelle has had numerous successful exhibitions throughout Europe. Her position as a member of the Artistes de Français and the presence of her works in prestigious collections across France and the rest of the world is affirmation of her continually expanding reputation as one of the true classic Impressionist painters. He lived in Wallington and nearby Beddington until his move to the Cottswolds in 1983. From the age of 14 he studied art and worked under the guidance of Malcolm Domingo and Frances Lane-Mason for ten years. Neal recognized that the world is constantly changing, and felt a need to record nature, the countryside and the coastline before they change beyond recognition. Seasonal change, time of day, different combinations of light and atmospheric effects all offer the artist a real challenge. Neal responds to this challenge unreservedly – his ability to see nature and convert it into art with a sympathetic blend of realism, inspired impressionism, and in particular his sense of color has made his work much sought after by collectors throughout the world. Charles has traveled widely in England and France looking for new aspects of the landscape in all its moods. Gloucestershire, where he lives now with his wife and family, has been a source of endless inspiration. Neal has exhibited in London and New York and his work has been hung at the Royal Society of British Artists and is represented in many private and corporate collections. Neal was honored when, in 1994, The Prince of Wales came to open his Painted Garden Exhibition at The Museum of Garden History. The Coastline Exhibition organized in conjunction with the National Trust followed this. This exhibition recorded on canvas the many different aspects of the English coastal landscape and furthered Enterprise Neptune’s campaign to preserve the unique English coastline. While painting, Neal becomes completely submerged in his subject matter and dedicated to his passion. He creates an astonishing variety of Impressionistic paintings, all of which are bathed in light and shadows captivating the viewer.
