Blessed be his kingdom, now and for ever. Amen. There is one body and one spirit. There is one hope to which we were called; one Lord, one faith, one baptism, one God and Father of all. Peace be with you and also with you. The Archbishop introduces the service: OD calls his people to follow Christ, and forms us into a royal priesthood, a holy nation, to declare the wonderful deeds of him who hGas called us out of darkness into his marvellous light. The Church is the Body of Christ, the people of God and the dwelling- place of the Holy Spirit. In baptism the whole Church is summoned to witness to God ’s love and to work for the coming of his kingdom. To serve this royal priesthood, God has given particular ministries. Bishops are ordained to be shepherds of Christ ’s flock and guardians of the faith of the apostles, proclaiming the gospel of God ’s kingdom and leading his people in mission. Obedient to the call of Christ and in the power of the Holy Spirit, they are to gather God ’s people and celebrate with them the sacraments of the new covenant. Thus formed into a single communion of faith and love, the Church in each place and time is united with the Church in every place and time. All remain standing. The Choir sings KYRIE ELEISON YRIE eleison. Lord have mercy. Christe eleison. Christ have mercy. Kyrie eleison. Lord have mercy. 6 All sit for THE PRESENTATION The ordinand is presented by the Canon Precentor of Lincoln and Nicolete Fisher, Lay Canon . EVEREND Father in God, Christopher has been chosen to be Bishop of Lincoln . We present him to be ordained and consecrated to the oRffice of bishop in the Church of God. The Archbishop asks: Do you believe him to be of godly life and sound learning? Those presenting respond: We do. Do you believe him to be duly called to serve God in this ministry? We do. Addressing the ordinand the Archbishop says: Christopher, do you believe that God is calling you to this ministry? He responds: I do so believe. The Archbishop says: Let the authority for the ordination be read. The Provincial Registrar reads the Royal Mandate. The Archbishop says: HRISTOPHER , you have taken the Oath of Allegiance to the Sovereign and the Oath of Due Obedience. You are now required to mCake the Declaration of Assent. 7 The Archbishop then reads the Preface to the Declaration of Assent: HE Church of England is part of the One, Holy, Catholic, and Apostolic Church, worshipping the one true God, Father, Son, and HToly Spirit. It professes the faith uniquely revealed in the Holy Scriptures and set forth in the catholic creeds, which faith the Church is called upon to proclaim afresh in each generation. Led by the Holy Spirit, it has borne witness to Christian truth in its historic formularies, the Thirty-nine Articles of Religion, The Book of Common Prayer , and the Ordering of Bishops, Priests , and Deacons. In the declaration you are about to make, will you affirm your loyalty to this inheritance of faith as your inspiration and guidance under God in bringing the grace and truth of Christ to this generation and making him known to those in your care? The ordinand responds: I, Christopher, do so affirm, and accordingly declare my belief in the faith which is revealed in the Holy Scriptures and set forth in the catholic creeds and to which the historic formularies of the Church of England bear witness; and in public prayer and administration of the sacraments, I will use only the forms of service which are authorized or allowed by Canon. The Choir sings GLORIA IN EXCELSIS DEO LORIA in excelsis Deo, et in terra pax hominibus bonae voluntatis. Laudamus te, benedicimus te, adoramus te, glorificamus te, gratias aGgimus tibi propter magnam gloriam tuam, Domine Deus, Rex caelestis, Deus Pater omnipotens. Domine Fili unigenite, Jesu Christe; Domine Deus, Agnus Dei, Filius Patris, qui tollis peccata mundi, miserere nobis; qui tollis peccata mundi, suscipe deprecationem nostram; qui sedes ad dexteram Patris, miserere nobis. Quoniam tu solus Sanctus, tu solus Dominus, tu solus Altissimus, Jesu Christe, cum Sancto Spiritu, in gloria Dei Patris. Amen. Glory to God in the highest, and peace to his people on earth. Lord God, heavenly King, almighty God and Father, we worship you, we give you thanks, we praise you for your glory. 8 Lord Jesus Christ, only Son of the Father, Lord God, Lamb of God, you take away the sin of the world: have mercy on us; you are seated at the right hand of the Father: receive our prayer. For you alone are the Holy One, you alone are the Lord, you alone are the Most High, Jesus Christ, with the Holy Spirit, in the glory of God the Father. Amen. All stand. The Archbishop introduces a period of silent prayer, saying: Let us pray for Christopher and for the ministry of the whole people of God. Silence is kept. THE COLLECT ALMIGHTY God, whose blessed Son called Matthew the tax collector to be an apostle and evangelist: give us grace to forsake the selfish pOursuit of gain and the possessive love of riches that we may follow in the way of your Son Jesus Christ, who is alive and reigns with you, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. Amen. The Liturgy of the Word All sit. Rebecca Lowson reads THE OLD TESTAMENT READING APPY are those who find wisdom, and those who get understanding, for her income is better than silver, and her revenue better than gold. SHhe is more precious than jewels, and nothing you desire can compare with her. Long life is in her right hand; in her left hand are riches and honour. Her ways are ways of pleasantness, and all her paths are peace. She is a tree of life to those who lay hold of her; those who hold her fast are called happy. Proverbs 3: 13–18 This is the word of the Lord.
