He previously served as Deputy Prime Minister of Thailand. He obtained his Ph.D. in economics from Massachusetts Institute of Technology. H.E. Anil Wadhwa Ambassador of Bharat to Thailand Bangkok, Thailand Ambassador of India to Thailand Anil Wadhwa, a career diplomat with over three decades in the Indian Foreign Service, was previously India’s ambassador to Poland and Oman. Fluent in English, Hindi, Chinese and French, he holds an MA in history from St Stephen’s College, Delhi and a Diploma in Chinese studies from Delhi University. A keen tennis player and golfer, he collects Indian art and porcelain. He has contributed articles, mainly on disarmament and is a columnist for the Oman Daily Observer. Shri Susheel Kumar Saraff Chairman, Organizing Committee, WHEF 2013 @ Bangkok President, India-Thai Chamber of Commerce Shri Susheel Kumar Saraff is the founder and visionary Chairman of Saraff Group of Companies. A first generation entrepreneur, his successful journey is inspirational to Indian origin businesses not only in Thailand, but the world over. As the President of the India-Thai Chamber of Commerce, he has been providing strategic leadership to the Board of Directors and leading the Chamber to new heights by creating successful opportunities for its members. He is the Director of the Board of Trade of Thailand and President of VHP Association Thailand. 1 Dr. Gautam Sen London School of Economics (retired) Dr. Gautam Sen is a well-known writer and international political economist and a member of the Steering Committee of the WHEF. He has particular expertise in South Asian, American and British foreign and international economic policies. Dr. Sen was an adviser to the Prime Minister’s Office in India on economic liberalisation and Indo-Nepal relations and appointed a member of the Eminent Persons Group of the Indo-UK Roundtable. Dr. Sen taught at the London School of Economics and Political Science for more than two decades and is currently Director of Global Vectra Helicorp, Ltd, Mumbai, India. SESSION 1: EMERGING OPPORTUNITIES FROM FREE TRADE AGREEMENT, REGIONAL ECONOMIC COMMUNITIES AND NEW GEOGRAPHICAL AREAS Prof. R. Vaidyanathan Professor of Finance & Control IIM Bengaluru, India R. Vaidyanathan is Professor in the Finance & Control at the Indian Institute of Management, Bangalore (IIMB) and a member of the Steering Committee of the WHEF. He was the Chairperson of the MBA programme [1992-1995] and founder Chairman of the Centre for Insurance Research and Education [CIRE] at IIMB. He was a Visiting Faculty at the International Center for Banking and Financial Services at Manchester Business School and was a Fellow of Salzburg Seminar at Austria. He was also a visiting Professor of Finance at the Faculty of Management at the University of Mauritius. Dr. Suman Sahai President, Gene Campaign New Delhi, India Dr. SumanSahai, who has had a distinguished scientific career in the field of genetics, was honored with one of India’s highest civilian honors, the Padma Shri in 2011. In 2004 she received the Borlaug Award for her outstanding contribution to agriculture and the environment. Dr. Sahai received her Ph.D. degree in genetics from the Indian Agricultural Research Institute in New Delhi. She has served on the faculties of the University of Alberta, University of Chicago, and the University of Heidelberg. Dr. Sahai returned to India in 1990 and organized Gene Campaign, a non-governmental organization dedicated to protecting farmers’ rights and food and livelihood security. Gene Campaign has played a key role in formulating India’s Farmers’ Rights law and works on issues relating to food, nutrition and livelihoods, Intellectual Property Rights, biodiversity conservation and use, sustainable agriculture, as well as agriculture biotechnology. 2 J. Jegathesan Founder Chairman JJ International Consultants Malaysia Founder of JJ International Consultants, CEO, Jega Jagadeesan (a.k.a. J. Jegathesan) is also currently Senior Economic Advisor to the Government of Japan Agency JICA (Japan International Cooperation Agency) and the Government of Zambia for their Asia Zambia Economic Linkages strategy, focusing on Malaysia and India. He has also been invited by UNCTAD, UNDP, UNIDO, MIGA, Japanese Govt's TICAD Program etc. to make presentations at numerous international conferences on Malaysia's experience and issues relating to Industrial Development, FDI flows, etc. In 1997, The North Korean Government moved by his efforts, awarded to Dato' Jega the Nations 2nd highest Civilian Award. Alpesh Patel Principal, Praefinium, London ,UK Alpesh trained as a Barrister and left to set up his own asset management company. He is a former Visiting Fellow in Business and Industry at Corpus Christi College, Oxford, having read PPE at St Anne’s College, Oxford and Law at King’s College, London. He is on the Advisory Board of the Oxford University Centre for Hindu Studies and Co-Chairman of the Advisory Board of the Loomba Trust, which supports widows and orphans in India. In 2000 he was appointed by the UK Prime Minister to the UK-India Roundtable to make policy suggestions to both British and Indian Prime Ministers on closer ties. SESSION 2: KEY NOTE SPEAKERS FROM BUSIENSSES & INDUSTRIES Tulsi R. Tanti CEO, Suzlon Group India Mr. Tulsi R. Tanti is the Chairman of the Suzlon Group – a company that he has led to unparalleled heights over the past decade. He developed a business model in India that offered integrated solutions in wind energy: wind resource assessment, land acquisition and development, turbine manufacturing, erection and commissioning to offering operations & maintenance services. Mr. Tanti recognized that technology and cost leadership were critical to Suzlon’s success, establishing R&D centers for rotor blades and aerodynamic development in the Netherlands, product design in Germany and engineering development in India. Under his leadership, Suzlon Group today, is the fifth largest wind turbine manufacturer in the world. A global corporation with over 13,000 employees Suzlon provides the full spectrum of wind power solutions across 32 countries on six continents. 3 Binod Chaudhary Chairman Chaudhary Group Nepal Binod Chaudhary has become the first Nepali to be enrolled in Forbes’ global billionaires list. Chaudhary Group (CG) with its presence in Nepal for over 136 years is the biggest conglomerate in Nepal. CG is a diversified Group with over 45 companies, 60 brands in 30 countries and over 6000 employees. The core areas of business are Food and Beverages, Education, Real Estate, Financial Services, Hydro Power, Infrastructure, Telecom, Cement, Hotels and Resorts. Avdhesh Goel Joint Managing Director Earth Group of Companies New Delhi, India Mr. Goel is an outstanding entrepreneur who has been instrumental in acquiring many properties in the sunrise areas of National Capital Region. He has also been involved in many core partnerships with prestigious and leading infrastructure companies. He is also a Certified Management professional from IIFT. He is the member of CII Task Force on Skills Development and also a member of Steering Committee of the World Hindu Economic Forum. C. Shivakumar Reddy Managing Director Kaveri Telecom Products Ltd India Mr. Shivakumar Reddy, the Managing Director of Kavveri Telecom Products Limited, holds a B.Tech (Electronics & Communications) degree from Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University (JNTU), Hyderabad with over 20 years of experience and expertise in the telecom industry. In 1988, he jointly started Kaveri Microwave Components Ltd., in Hyderabad as one of the Promoter Directors, and was instrumental for design, development and marketing of RF products. In 1996 Kaveri Microwave Components was taken over by Kaveri Telecoms Limited. Mr. C. Shivkumar Reddy continues to be the Chief Executive of the merged entity and is the Managing Director of Kaveri Telecom Products Limited. 4 SESSION 3: ENORMOUS OPPORTUNITIES OF BUSINESS IN ALTERNATIVE ENERGY Suresh P. Prabhu Chairman Council on Energy, Environment, and Water New Delhi, India Mr. Suresh P. Prabhu, a renowned public figure, has been Union Cabinet Minister of Power, Environment and Forests, Industry, Chemicals & Fertilisers, Heavy Industry & Public Enterprises. He has been a Member of Parliament (India) in the 11th, 12th, 13th and 14th Lok Sabha (from 1996-2009). As a Minister with the Government of India, he introduced reforms in the power sector that went a long way in protecting the environment and ensuring sustainable development by conserving natural resources and bringing electricity to remote corners of the country. Mr Suresh Prabhu is regarded as India’s unofficial global envoy on environmental issues. Prof. M.S. Babel Asian Institute of Technology Bangkok, Thailand Dr. Babel specializes in hydrologic and water resources modeling, as applied to integrated water resources management. His interest areas are diverse and include watershed modeling and management; water resources allocation and management; water resources and socio- economic development; water supply system and management; and climate change on hydrology and water resources.
