  • Freemen, Slaves?
No. 51. FREEMEN, SLAVES? BY GEORGE W. BUNGAY. 'OU say that you are fl'ee——a free man :—-that you work with free hands and walk with ii-ee feet; that you are the master of your own bones and brains; that you can think your own thoughts and put your thoughts into words and deeds; that you can go from place to place without a pass. You can work or play. You can earn money and spend it or save it. You can learn how to read and write, or you can remain ignorant of the use of letters. You can be a good sober man, or you can become a poor, miserable drunkard. Now there is more than one kind of slavery, and the man who is a drunkard, whether he be black or white, is a slave, and habit-the habit of drinkin.g—,is his master. It is a cruel master, for it takes his wages from him, and does not give him bread to eat nor clothes I0 wear in re turn for the monpy. He spends his money for rum, or gin, or brandy, or wine, or beer. and gets a. pain in the head or a bad feeling in the stomach for it. The drink does not make him smarter ncr stronger than he was before he drank it. I-Ie may feel wise and strong for a short time after drivking,_ but it merely excites him as the whip and the spur excite the horse. A horse will go fast when you whip him and spur him, but whips and spurs will not make him fat and strong.

In contrast with Banner, who found his Hulk powers to be a burden, Cho is a confident character who revels in his newfound abilities. He subsequently starred in his own miniseries, Heroic Age: Prince of Power. Amadeus Cho takes part in the Excello soap company's "young genius" contest put on by Pythagoras Dupree, winning easily. Dupree, who claims to be the world's sixth smartest man, tries to kill Cho to preserve his ranking. Cho's parents are killed, but Amadeus survives and goes on the run with a Vespa scooter and a coyote pup. When the Hulk saves him from some of Dupree's men, Cho considers the Hulk a friend and strictly views him as heroic and reactive to the aggression of others. Amadeus Cho has stated to Hercules, just before he first encountered Athena at her house, that he is Korean Americanand mentions to Athena later at an Olympian dinner when questioned about his namesake that, due to his parents' love for Mozart 's music and Methodist beliefs, they named him this. The character is next seen during the events of the crossover event, World War Hulkwhere he first comes across a de-powered Jen Walters.

By Lyndsey Erin Shelton Under the mentorship of Dr. Darin H. Van Tassell ABSTRACT It is a widely accepted notion that a child can only be called stupid for so long before they believe it, can only be treated in a particular way for so long before that is the only way that they know. Why is that notion never applied to how we treat, address, and present religion and the religious to children and young adults? In recent years, questions have been continuously brought up about how we portray violence, sexuality, gender, race, and many other issues in popular media directed towards young people, particularly video games.

INFORMATION TO USERS This material was produced from a microfilm copy of the original document. While the most advanced technological means to photograph and reproduce this document have been used, the quality is heavily dependent upon the quality of die original submitted. The following explanation of techniques is provided to help you understand markings or patterns which may appear on this reproduction. 1. The sign or "target" for pages apparently lacking from the document photographed is "Missing Page(s)". If it was possible to obtain the missing page(s) or section, they are spliced into the film along with adjacent pages. This may have necessitated cutting thru an image and duplicating adjacent pages to insure you complete continuity. 2. When an image on the film is obliterated with a large round black mark, it is an indication that the photographer suspected that die copy may have moved during exposure and thus cause a blurred image. You will find a good image of die page in the adjacent frame. 3. When a map, drawing or chart, etc., was part of the material being photographed the photographer followed a definite method in "sectioning" the material. It is customary to begin photoing at the upper left hand corner of a large sheet and to continue photoing from left to right in equal sections with a small overlap. If necessary, sectioning is continued again — beginning below the first row and continuing on until complete. 4. The majority of users indicate that the textual content is of greatest value, however, a somewhat higher quality reproduction could be made from "photographs" if essential to the understanding of the dissertation.
