Fitness Center In addition to the rehabilitation center, Shippensburg University has a complete weight-training and fit- ness center inside the field house. The facility contains state-of-the-art equipment that benefits the athletes on campus and remains open more than 80 hours per week. The facility is undergoing a complete renovation this winter and will be operational in February with brand new equipment specifically designed to enhance the well being of the student athletes on campus. The cornerstone of Shippensburg’s recent construction is a brand new Student Recreation Center - an 8,000 square foot, two-level, fitness center with free weights and cardio machines. It houses a four-court gymnasium, an elevated running track, racquet and handball courts, and exercise and dance spaces. Training Facilities The scope and importance of sports medicine at Shippensburg University has shown rapid growth in recent years. In addition to upgraded facilities in Heiges Field House, the university completed the renovation of a sports medicine facility in Henderson Gymnasium that primarily serves the women’s lacrosse, field hockey, and softball teams. Three full-time trainers oversee the train- ing needs of 20 men’s and women’s athletic teams.

Rehabilitation Center The Etter Health Center provides essential health-care services for Ship- pensburg’s student athletes. Orthopaedic Associates of Chambersburg serve as the team orthopedic consultants. Wes Mallicone, director of sports medicine, supervises the first-aid, prevention, treatment, evalua- tion, and rehabilitation of injuries to approximately 600 student athletes. The sports medicine staff operates three coed training rooms on campus. Student athletes to seek out the new techniques and care now available to them in the area of sports medicine. Springer began his coaching career in 1985 as an assistant at Bridgton Dave Springer Academy in Bridgton, Maine. Entering the 2008-09 season, his teams had won 44 of its last 55 games at home, including the opening round game of the PSAC Tournament in 2006. Springer, who was an assistant coach at California University (Pa.) in 2001, has coached in the PSAC for 16 years at three different universi- ties. Prior to taking the assistant’s job at California he was an assistant coach at Shippensburg for 11 years, coaching from 1989 to 1996 and again from 1998 to 2000. He guided Millersville to an 11-15 record as the team’s head coach during the 1996-97 season.

Eric Rahauser, the graduate assistant in the sports information offi ce, joins the Shippensburg men’s basketball coaching staff for the 2009-10 season after completing his collegiate career at nearby Dickinson College. He will serve as a volunteer coach. Rahauser was a four-year letter winner with the Red Devil men’s bas- ketball program, serving as the team captain during his junior and senior seasons. He moved into a starting role midway through the 2007-08 campaign, helping Dickinson reach the Centennial Conference playoffs for the fi rst time since 1997. The Devils won a fi rst round playoff game at McDaniel before falling to eventual champion, Ursinus College, in the semifi nals. The team also earned a bid to the Eastern College Athletic Conference South Region Tournament that season. Rahauser, earned a degree in American Studies in May of 2009. He is also a native of the Mercersburg Academy and received the Plantz Award in 2001, an honor bestowed upon the best male athlete in the senior class. He has extensive backgrounds in basketball camps, serving as an instructor for both Dickinson College and Rutgers University. He has also served as a director of residence and a writing instructor for the Young Writer’s Camp at Mercersburg Academy.
