Senator Dan Evans to chair the Washington Wildlife & Recreation Coalition, dedicated to purchasing and preserving wildlife habitat and recreational opportunities in Washington state; they successfully secured more than $113 million as part of a $450 million proposal to permanently protect Washington's most precious and natural areas. Lowry is the first governor in Washington's history to succeed a gov ernor of the same party. He responded to voters' desire for change by enlisting hundreds of citizen volunteers of diverse backgrounds to craft recommendations on a vision and direction for the state of Washington, and immediately upon taking office issued an executive order on ethics in government. Lowry has made health care reform and balancing the state budget his top priorities for the 1993 legislative session.
