It’s one of the reasons that I love living here. From golf courses, soccer fields, playgrounds, and tennis courts to mountain forests and paved bike trails, Orangetown’s park system has it all. Summer is one of the most exciting times of year in Orangetown’s parks. Under the leadership of Superintendent Aric Gorton, our Parks & Recreation Department has put together an outstanding set of programs for kids, teens, and adults! Our two golf courses, the 27-hole Blue Hill and the 9-hole Broadacres, both now oper - ated successfully by Applied Golf, continue to draw faithful golf enthusiasts, while miles of trails and acres of open space call those seeking options for passive and active recre - ation. Explore the Nike Site – formerly a Nike Hercules radar tracking station for the U.S. gov - ernment – offering hiking, open space, and scenic views from atop Clausland Mountain. Take a stroll along a stream in Pascack Brook Park, play tennis at Independence Park, or shoot some hoops at Veterans Memorial Park. Swing, slide and climb with your children in one of the many playgrounds throughout town. One of the most visible and exciting additions to our parks system is the NYS Department of Transportation’s long-awaited work on Phase II of the Joseph B. Clarke Rail Trail. When completed, 1.25 miles will be added to the existing 2.5 mile trail, allow - ing residents to get from Blauvelt to Orangeburg, Sparkill, Palisades, Piermont, Grandview, South Nyack and Nyack on foot or on bike. And don’t forget to enjoy the free summer concerts at Veteran’s Memorial Park – once again we have a great lineup of entertainment! If you’re new to town, or haven’t yet explored all that our Parks & Recreation Department has to offer, we hope you’ll get outdoors, get moving, and visit Orangetown’s 26 town parks and open space areas this spring. Visiting a new park is a good way to explore a different part of Orangetown. Have an idea for a new program you’d like the Town to offer – or a suggestion to improve an existing program? Share your ideas by calling the Parks and Recreation Department at 359-6503 or emailing – [email protected]. Sincerely, Andy Stewart, Town Supervisor Office of Recreation and Parks 81 Hunt Road, Orangeburg, New York 10962 Telephone: 359-6503 359-5100, Ext. 2233 Email: [email protected] http://www.orangetown.com Aric T. Tappan Zee High School 15 Dutch Hill Road Orangeburg, New York 10962 TZHS PROJECT GRADUATION ‘16 April, 2016 Dear TZHS Parents/Guardians: Plans are in full swing for Tappan Zee High School’s Project Graduation ’16. This marks the 25th anniversary for Project Graduation - a supervised, substance free, all night party for graduates. The party will start at 11:30 p.m. Thursday night, June 23rd, 2016 and ends at 5:00 a.m. on Friday morning, June 24th. The celebration is held at Tappan Zee High School and is organized by the PTSA with help from the Senior Class. The evening’s plans are in the initial stages of planning and will include lots of music with great food, and a variety of activities such as volleyball, basketball, a video game area, ping pong and table games. In addition, we have contracted with an entertainment company for the DJ/karaoke, a jousting ring, an obstacle course, a comedian, and a photo booth. To make this celebration a memorable occasion, we need your support and financial backing. Last year’s celebration cost approximately $12,000. There are three ways that you may contribute. First, in addition to support from our community businesses, we still depend on our parents for financial contributions. We are asking that you consider a tax deductible monetary donation of $25, $50 or whatever your budget will allow. Simply go to http://tzhsptsa.org/TZHSProjectGraduation or complete the coupon on the next page. All checks should be made payable to “TZHS/PTSA Project Graduation ’16”. Secondly, if you are in a business where you are able to donate tickets to concerts, sporting events or a Broadway show, they would make wonderful prizes.

Kenny Board Denis Troy Paul Valentine A Message from the Supervisor Although we have all been living through some extraordinary times, with the summer finally here and hopefully COVID-19 in the rearview mirror, there is no better time to get out and enjoy the beautiful outdoors right here in Orangetown. While this year we still cannot offer all of the same programs that we have done in the past, our Orangetown Parks & Recreation Department has been hard at work to come up with a selection of fun family-oriented activ- ities for children, adults, and senior citizens of all fitness levels. Rockland County continues to produce outstanding athletes year after year, so there is no shortage of qualified candidates for future years. I would personally like to congratulate Bob Veltidi as a member of this year’s induction class for his outstanding contributions to our Rockland County Sports Hall of Fame committee as both screening committee chair and past master of ceremonies. Bob exemplifies what true service to sports and community are; we are pleased to honor him with the Joseph Holland Lifetime Achievement Award. Over the past year, sadly four of our past inductees died. Ed Matott Jr. was a 2016 inductee, an outstanding Nyack High School basketball coach who roamed the “pit” in the 1960s and ‘70s, and also a well-respected soccer official. Gene Erickson, a 1985 inductee and 1949 graduate of Spring Valley High School, was an outstanding hockey goaltender who was an alternate netminder for the 1956 Olympics.
