According to ThePTA’s founding of the Law is responsible for:

• Planning Network of Public Transport • Specify stops, routes, frequency of bus routes (OASTH) • Decides for the type of passengers facilities for (shelters, stations etc.) • Improving passenger service (bus lanes, terminals, passenger information) • Award urban transport in to the Municipalities Planning and Integration – Thessaloniki SUMP Development Planning and Integration – Thessaloniki SUMP Development

1. Integrated and Smart Electronic Fare Ticket Systems in Public Transport and parking fee

2. Bus , Bus priority at traffic light

3. Information and Awareness campaigns of citizens for discouraging the use of private car and use of the Public Transport System

4. Promotion of system, complementary to the Metro with new ways of financing, restructuring bus routes and accompanying urban regeneration facilities Planning and Integration – Thessaloniki SUMP Development

5. Interface between Metro/Tram/Bus with the creation of appropriate spaces for interchanges and restructuring of bus stops

6. Maritime Public Transport System in the Thermaikos Gulf

7. Flexible Transit Systems

8. Integrated Parking Policy (, controlled parking system) Planning and Integration – Thessaloniki SUMP Development

9. Pedestrianization and public space regeneration

10. Bike lanes

11. Bike Sharing System

12. Congestion Charge User Information Systems Telematic system

The Passenger Information System (Telematic) and vehicles management based on the GPS system (in every bus ~ 600) and the provision of geographical place, real time, speed and elevation every time by sending the data using GSM network (GPRS protocol).

The collection and the analysis of the data made by the SkyView software.

On the map of the system somebody can see:

All the desired levels The map, the destinations, etc. Tools (zoom, copy, print, etc.) Greek menu List of buses List of special type of buses, bus line, etc. Buses paths Bus observation in real time

Telematic system-operations

1. Bus location in real time 2. Map view 3. Bus rotation on the map 4. Statistical data for every bus 5. Removal of late buses 6. Different signs for buses 7. Foundation of every bus (number, code) 8. Speed estimation 9. Removal, addition of users by using authorization 10. Different colour for the buses which change its situation 11. Searching for addresses, cities, Municipalities 12. Alarms for special situations (save the data) 13. Management by distance 14. Design of bus lines 15. Reproduction of bus route Real time during the trip (1/3)

• 200 smart bus stops Real time during the trip (2/3)

• Voice notice in 20 bus stops Real time during the trip (3/3)

• Visual and voice notice Journey Planning Google transit Journey Planning and real time information (operator’s website) Journey Planning and real time information (operator’s smart phone web-site application)

Web- site application for smart phones

• Bus routes and time schedule • “Shortest path” • Bus routes maps • Arrivals of a specific bus route in bus stops. • Arrivals of buses in a specific • Bus position in real time • Points of interest Real time before the trip

• By phone (mobile or fixed through an interactive response system) The host system responds with pre-recorded audio for directing the user to his selections and for providing the relevant information, namely: The bus arrival me on a requested bus line The bus arrival me on a requested bus stop The route (in terms of bus stops names) of a requested bus line The bus lines that transit a requested bus stop Traveller information at interchanges As part of the NODES European Project ThePTA has placed: Two info-kiosks and a Variable Message Sign - Smart Bus stop at IKEA interchange.

The use of the infokiosks allows passengers to retrieve information regarding the departure time of all bus lines serving IKEA interchange and to plan their trip to/from any destination. The VMS is a smart bus stop, displaying the imminent departure of each bus line serving the interchange. Ticketing Background of Smart System (SITS)

Public Transport (PT) in Thessaloniki is currently offered solely by buses on a flat fare and pre-purchase of paper tickets with some discount.

The city is expected to have additional mass rapid transit modes in the next 5 years (Metro, Tramway/LRT, FTS and DRT in semi-rural areas, Sea-borne PT with bus and P+R intermodality).

The current basic fare structure needs to undergo major enhancements and upgrading to offer integration between all future PT modes as well as P+R, towards ‘seamless’ .

This will include concessionary , incentives, peak spreading measures, based on Electronic Fare Collection (EFC) systems such as smartcards. Work plan of the pilot-Methodology

Consultation on principles and options with involved bodies on several issues such as technology, operation and funding Strategy Formulation based on the preferred scenario for the system Travel Behaviour survey of potential users for improved public transport ticketing and fare collection services Comparative Analysis of the system Costs and Benefits Consultation on Implementation and Recommendations to responsible authorities for the future system. Architecture of the System (1/3)
