1 La marche des morts Au commencement, il y avait un livre. Au commence- ment, il y a toujours un livre. Le comic book The Walking Dead paraît pour la première fois en 2003. D’abord pressenti pour être une bande dessinée de science-fiction sur fond d’invasion zombie et portant le joli nom de Dead Planet, le projet est revu et corrigé à maintes reprises. L’aspect SF est remisé au placard, et le cadre de l’histoire nous plonge dans une époque contemporaine, à ceci près qu’une épidémie galopante a transformé une très grande partie de l’humanité en zombies. Très vite, l’œuvre en noir et blanc remporte un énorme succès. Pensez donc, le premier numéro de la BD sorti en 2003 à seulement 7300 exemplaires est aujourd’hui vendu à plus de 10 000 euros. Les chiffres de vente donnent le vertige. Le numéro 100, édité avec 10 couvertures diffé- rentes, s’est vendu à près de 400 000 exemplaires rien qu’aux États-Unis. En France aussi, le phénomène TWD affole les compteurs. Tous les spécialistes le confirment : c’est le grand hit comics des 15 dernières années. Bien que 7 THE WALKING DEAD DÉCRYPTÉ TWD ne soit arrivé dans l’Hexagone qu’en 2007, chaque tome est aujourd’hui édité à plus de 100 000 exemplaires. Plus de 2 millions d’albums ont été écoulés en moins de 10 ans, et la licence représente près de la moitié des ventes de comics dans notre pays. Rien qu’en 2013, le numéro 1 a été acquis par plus de 50 000 curieux. -

La duda hace que el encuentro con otras personas que dicen haber sido abducidas siempre tenga relevancia para Mulder, Scully o ambos, como se puede ver con claridad en el caso de Cassandra Spender. Hasta que él mismo es abducido se da la paradójica situación de que quien cree en la posibilidad de la abducción es él mientras que Scully, abducida en la Temporada 2, siempre duda de quién la secuestró, convenciéndose de que los extraterrestres son responsables sólo cuando su compañero desaparece (y no necesariamente en referencia a su propio rapto). En cualquier caso poco importa en el fondo si el abducido ha sido víctima de sus congéneres humanos o de alienígenas porque en todos los casos él o ella cree –con la singular excepción de Scully– que sus raptores no son de este mundo. Como Leslie Jones nos recuerda, las historias de abducción de la vida real que han inspirado este aspecto de Expediente X “expresan una nueva creencia, tal vez un nuevo temor: a través de la experimentación sin emociones realizada por los alienígenas usando cuerpos humanos adquiridos por la fuerza, se demuestra que el hombre pertenece a la naturaleza, mientras que los extraterrestres habitan una especie de supercultura.” (Jones 94). -

Brendon Connelly, the show's creator, is an old friend and colleague and the idea is so fun. Here's the pitch: Ten years ago, a group of kids and their dog defeated a demon. It's back. Or at least that's what seems to be happening in the claustrophobic opening episode. Written and recorded in COVID lockdown, the show is focused on the themes of family, isolation and what happens when our fragile bubbles are shattered. I had the pleasure of chatting to Brendon and co-writers Jim Field and James MacDonald about the show on Twitter. -

Welcome to Dead by Dawn! It’s sound advice to be more afraid of the living than the dead. Sure, the dead can kill you, but at least they’re easy to spot. In this year’s programme too many of the monsters will smile when they meet you, and will still be smiling when they lock you in a meat freezer. Or encourage you onto a ledge. Or offer to share their martini. You could try politely declining their kind offer, see how that works out... Dead by Dawn is a discovery festival which exists to showcase potential and vibrant emerging talent, but also aims to screen the widest possible range of what can be described as horror both in feature and short form. -

How TV's Top Marketers Create Killer Campaigns 06.14.2018 Launching a show in today's multichannel, multiplatform universe means so much more than just planning some on-air promos and hoping viewers tune in. It starts with identifying the target audience and then figuring out how to reach them, turning over every tweet, Insta post and Snapchat filter in the process. It requires great assets deployed in strategic ways as well as partnerships to try new technologies - such as Facebook bots, Twitch livestreams and Snapchat AR filters - to try to grab viewers' increasingly short attention span. At the 2018 PromaxBDA Conference in New York on Thursday, four of TV's top marketers gathered together to discuss how they and their teams came together to get the word out about some of TV's best and most beloved shows. HBO's Westworld HBO's job when Westworld was preparing to return for season two was two-fold: first, remind viewers of the show after 16 months off the air and second, broaden the audience of the genre show that's steeped in its own sometimes confounding mythology. "This is one of the most ambitious campaigns I have ever worked on," said Chris Spadaccini, EVP, consumer marketing, HBO. "We were off the air for 16 months. Our job was to make it relevant again." In addition, he said, "Westworld is very much a genre show. The plotlines are convoluted and the show itself is quite cerebral. We wanted to make it accessible to a broader audience." In preparation for the show's April 22 premiere, HBO kicked off the marketing campaign in December 2017 with a promotion encouraging people to binge-watch season one over the holidays. -

Hallmark Collection 20000 Leagues Under The Sea In 1867, Professor Aronnax (Richard Crenna), renowned marine biologist, is summoned by the Navy to identify the mysterious sea creature that disabled the steamship Scotia in die North Atlantic. He agrees to undertake an expedition. His daughter, Sophie (Julie Cox), also a brilliant marine biologist, disguised as a man, comes as her father's assistant. On ship, she becomes smitten with harpoonist Ned Land (Paul Gross). At night, the shimmering green sea beast is spotted. When Ned tries to spear it, the monster rams their ship. Aronnax, Sophie and Ned are thrown overboard. Floundering, they cling to a huge hull which rises from the deeps. The "sea beast" is a sleek futuristic submarine, commanded by Captain Nemo. He invites them aboard, but warns if they enter the Nautilus, they will not be free to leave. The submarine is a marvel of technology, with electricity harnessed for use on board. Nemo provides his guests diving suits equipped with oxygen for exploration of die dazzling undersea world. Aronnax learns Nemo was destined to be the king to lead his people into the modern scientific world, but was forced from his land by enemies. Now, he is hoping to halt shipping between the United States and Europe as a way of regaining his throne. Ned makes several escape attempts, but Sophie and her father find the opportunities for scientific study too great to leave. Sophie rejects Nemo's marriage proposal calling him selfish. He shows his generosity, revealing gold bars he will drop near his former country for pearl divers to find and use to help the unfortunate.
