Principles of geometry and religious beliefs caused certain patterns to take shape in Islamic architecture that were used in designing buildings including mosques. With the advancements in technology, architecture entered a new stage considering the form of construction and the buildings. Islamic architecture and mosque, which is the primary symbol of Islamic architecture, are not different and consequently went through changes in forms and patterns. In this paper, the purpose is to express the place of patterns of Islamic Architecture in the mosques of the third millennium. The method used is descriptive-analytic and the mosques of the third millennium are the statistical population and ten of them are the statistical sample. The tools used are the library studies and the data has been analyzed using chars obtained from Excel. The result indicated that in the architecture of the mosques of the third millennium, the patterns of Islamic architecture have been fixed and proposed, and yet do create different designs that would be novel. -

The Role of Climate and Culture on the Formation of Courtyards in Mosques Hossein Soltanzadeh* Associate Professor of Architecture, Faculty of Art and Architecture, Tehran Central Branch, Islamic Azad University, Tehran, Iran Received: 23/05/2015; Accepted: 30/06/2015 Abstract The process regarding the formation of different mosque gardens and the elements that contribute to the respective process is the from the foci point of this paper. The significance of the topic lies in the fact that certain scholars have associated the courtyard in mosques with the concept of garden, and have not taken into account the elements that contribute to the development of various types of mosque courtyards. The theoretical findings of the research indicate that the conditions and instructions regarding the Jemaah [collective] prayers on one hand and the notion of exterior performance of the worshiping rites as a recommended religious precept paired with the cultural, environmental and natural factors on the other hand have had their share of founding the courtyards. This study employs the historical analytical approach since the samples are not contemporary. The dependant variables are culture and climate while the form of courtyard in the jame [congregational] mosque is the dependent variable. The statistical population includes the jame mosques from all over the Islamic world and the samples are picked selectively from among the population. The findings have demonstrated that the presence of courtyard is in part due to the nature of the prayers that are recommended to say in an open air, and in part because this is also favoured by the weather in most instances and on most days. -

About Mashhad Imam Reza Holy Shrine in (رضا امام حرم :Imam Reza shrine (Persian Mashhad, Iran is a complex which contains the mausoleum of Imam Reza, the eighth Imam of Twelver Shiites. European Journal of Science and Theology, June 2019, Vol.15, No.3, 233-243 _______________________________________________________________________ STUDYING LIGHT-CATCHING ELEMENTS OF QAJAR MOSQUES IN SHIRAZ Amin Habibi*, Hamid Reza Sharif and Mozhgan Kamali Shiraz University, Faculty of Arts and Architecture, Department of Architecture, Maaliabad Goldasht 3, Shiraz, Iran (Received 12 June 2018, revised 22 March 2019) Abstract Light is one of the factors affecting the space value of Islamic architecture and represents texture to the painted and brick surfaces in the form of quality. Light passes through wooden windows, plaster and marble walls, glasses of marble reliefs and makes the designs of interior places visible. Additionally, it creates a periodic coverage for colours and shades, and it reveals a strong presence at mosques from the two functional and mystic (a symbol of God‟s presence) aspects. This study attempts to investigate the light- catching elements for the Qajar era mosques in Shiraz in order to identify the abundance of them and also the state of taking advantages of these elements. Therefore, we aimed to categorize and detect the level of importance for each architectural element which is associated with the light in Iranian mosques. This study was conducted based on the hypothesis that implies the components of mosque architecture are able to be categorized from the aspect of dealing with natural light. In addition, these components and elements have been wisely located in the building with respect to the direction of radiation and intensity of the sunlight. In this research, by assistance of utilizing both methods of field and library studies, 10 samples of Shiraz Qajar mosques were classified and were selected by considering the well-known local mosques simultaneously (This is based on the library research and documentations which are cited by Cultural Heritage, Handicrafts and Tourism Organization of Iran).
