STALLIONS 2017 STALLIONS 2017 Your Key to Success Welcome to Rathbarry & Glenview Studs 2017 Dear Breeders, The nature of the bloodstock industry is that each and every year brings fresh challenges as well STALLIONS 2017 as new achievements and 2016 has been no different. The main concern is that there has been increased catalogue sizes to cater for a larger foal crop of 2015, so the necessity for breeders to focus on quality and value is more important than ever. Happily we have witnessed another fantastic year for ACCLAMATION’s progeny on the track with 17 Black Type performers including Group 1 Prix de l’Abbaye winner MARSHA and Dual Group 2 winning 2-Y-O MEHMAS. LIMATO has again proved a great advertisement for TAGULA in 2016, when competing at the highest level. He was successful in Group 1 July Cup and Group 1 Prix de la Foret and we look forward to even more successes for him in 2017. As we write the first crop foals by the Group 2 Winning and Dual Group 1 placed 2-Y-O MOOHAAJIM and the Dual Group 1 Winning Miler, XTENSION, are being prepared for the sales ring and we are confident that you will be impressed by their excellent quality and confirmation. In 2017 we are proud to introduce two new stallions which will offer breeders a great variety of choice to our existing roster - AJAYA, the Group 2 Gimcrack Stakes Winning 2-Y-O by Leading Sire Invincible Spirit from an established stallion producing female line and KODI BEAR, the Group 2 Winner of 4 Stakes Races from 7-8 furlongs, by Multiple Stakes Producing sire Kodiac.

  • Welcome to the April 2015 Edition of the Donn Mcclean Racing Newsletter
Welcome to the April 2015 edition of the Donn McClean Racing newsletter. Looking ahead It’s all about the Aintree Grand National now. Final declarations were made this morning, and all 40 runners stood their ground. We're all set. There is usually a story behind every Grand National winner, behind every Grand National contender, but there could be no better story this year than the one that victory for Shutthefrontdoor and AP McCoy would tell. The champ, riding in his last Grand National, in what would be his last race if he happened to win it. That would be the story of stories. Of course, there are other stories lurking. Like the Pineau De Re story, bidding to become the first back-to-back winner since Red Rum. Or the Lord Windermere or Spring Heeled story, both trying to win for Jim Culloty the trainer, 13 years after Bindaree won for Jim Culloty the rider. Or the First Lieutenant story, Mouse Morris' horse set to be ridden by Nina Carberry. Never before has a female rider won the Grand National. Well, Katie Walsh won the Irish National on Monday, so why not? Here are five things that you might keep in mind as you are searching for the Grand National winner: No seven-year-old has won the National since Bogskar in 1940, and none has finished placed in the race since 1971. That makes it difficult for Cause Of Causes and Unioniste. Bindaree in 2002 is the last eight-year-old to win it, and he was only the third eight-year-old since Red Rum won his first in 1973.

THURSDAY, JANUARY 12, 2017 KEENELAND JANUARY MARCHES ON STRAIGHT TO NUMBER by Jessica Martini LEXINGTON, Ky - The Keeneland January Horses of All Ages Sale ONE: UNCLE MO continued with its first Book 2 session Wednesday, with a pair of mares bringing six-figures and numbers largely in line with the 2016 Book 2 opener. Fifth and Madison (Street Sense) (hip 1118) brought the day=s top price when selling for $135,000 to Doug Branham. Taylor Made Sales Agency consigned the 4-year- old mare on behalf of Starlight Racing. Bubbles and Babies (A.P. Indy) (hip 1050) also broke the six-figure mark when selling for $125,000 to Josham Farm from the Valkyre Stud consignment. AIt was a positive thing to see those two mares break $100,000 today,@ said Keeneland=s Director of Sales Operations Geoffrey Russell. AIt shows that there is still money here for horses.@ After recording double-digit declines in Book 1, Book 2 opened with numbers similar with last year=s corresponding session. In all, 197 horses sold Wednesday for a total of $3,415,900. The average was $17,340--it was $17,351 a year ago. The median dipped 5.56% to $8,500. The buy-back rate for Wednesday=s Uncle Mo | Coolmore session was 33.22%--up from 23.34% last year. • The May 2015 Edition of the Donn Mcclean Racing Newsletter
Welcome to the May 2015 edition of the Donn McClean Racing Newsletter. Derby musings The Derby picture looks a bit grainy these days. It seems that, each time a contender runs and bids to enhance his Derby claims, he falls short. Christophermarlowe is the latest horse to slide down the Derby pecking order. John Gosden’s horse looked good when he won the Derby Trial over 10 furlongs of the Derby course last month. But, sent off at odds-on to land the Lingfield Trial on Saturday, he was beaten on merit by Kilimanjaro. Cue, slide out to 33/1. Kilimanjaro obviously enhanced his claims, but you never got the feeling beforehand that he was on top of the Ballydoyle Derby list, and you can still back him at 33/1 for the Derby, even after Saturday’s victory. That’s one of the big issues with the Derby this year: there is no main Ballydoyle contender yet. Gleneagles was impressive in winning the Guineas, but he is going down the mile route, Irish Guineas, St James’s Palace Stakes, possibly stepping up to 10 furlongs later in the season. Ol’ Man River was disappointing in the Guineas, Smuggler’s Cove was beaten in the Dee Stakes, Sir Isaac Newton was beaten in a maiden at Chester. John F Kennedy was beaten in the Ballysax Stakes and skipped the Derrinstown, Highland Reel was beaten in the French Guineas and Giovanni Canaletto scoped poorly before his intended prep run at Chester. He is interesting, but he hasn’t run now since he won his maiden at Leopardstown last October.

We have tried to avoid the more obvious choices like Envoi Allen, Shishkin, Epatante and Al Boum Photo, and have instead gone for some that seem on the face of it to be a bit darker… although all of them could easily turn out to be top class! It is very hard to be confident about which 2021 Festival targets horses will be aimed at but we have tried to avoid those that are declared for multiple events and have come up with horses that are currently quoted at double figure prices for the races we think they are most likely to line up for. Why not set all ten up in a free tracker, there are plenty available and you'll get an email sent to you every time one is due to run so you can watch how they develop over the season. If you don't know, don't worry I'll tell you in the next section how to do it… it's dead easy! Anyway, we hope that you enjoy our guide and that it brings plenty of enjoyment and hopefully a few winners over the season.
