Defensively, he recorded 203 tackles in his senior season, 97 of them solo and 55 of them for a loss. He can point across the room to where Emmitt Smith held court. He can look to his right and know that Terence Newman now occupies Darren Woodson’s old locker with a message about the Super Bowl tradition on its back wall. He can look straight ahead and see where Flozell Adams sat for years. Now Gurode is the old man in the room. Not in terms of age or years of NFL service – those go to backup quarterback Jon Kitna (37 and 14 respectively) – but in tenure with the Cowboys. Gurode is entering his eighth season with the Cowboys. “I wouldn’t say it felt like yesterday,” said Gurode, a second round pick in 2002 after Roy Williams and before Antonio Bryant, “but it felt like I just came here a few years ago. I couldn’t imagine going through the stuff I’ve been through and the years and just all of the things it took to get to this point. It’s like, ‘Wow, it’s really been a journey.’” Gurode was Adams’ teammate for eight years, who was once Michael Irvin’s teammate, who played with Everson Walls, who was a Cowboy with Harvey Martin, who played defensive line with Bob Lilly, the Cowboys’ first draft pick in 1961, who came a year after Eddie LeBaron was the quarterback for an 0-11-1 team in the franchise’s first year.

    Marcus Allen is one of the greatest NFL and Collegiate Running Backs of all time. A former Heisman Trophy winner and a Pro Football Hall of Famer, Marcus Allen Marcus Allen will long be remembered as one of the best to ever play the game at any level. His contributions to the NFL and the college game are legendary. Marcus ended his illustrious career as the NFL’s all-time leader on several Speech Topics prestigious lists. He played more games (222), rushed for more touchdowns (123), and caught more passes than any other running back in his era. The former MVP of Super Bowl XVIII and NFL Rookie of the Year was inducted into the Hall of Fame Youth on August 3, 2003. University/College Marcus Allen began his NFL career in 1982 and played 16 years with both the Teambuilding Oakland Raiders and the Kansas City Chiefs.     THE COFFIN CORNER: Vol. 25, No. 4 (2003) Marcus Allen Marcus Allen, the tenth player selected in the 1982 National Football League Draft, played 16 seasons with the Los Angeles Raiders and Kansas City Chiefs. During that time he gained 12,243 yards rushing, 5,411 yards receiving, and scored 145 touchdowns. Considered one of the game's best goal line and short-yardage runners, Marcus began his pro career as the NFL Rookie of the Year and ended as the game's all-time rushing touchdown leader. At the time of his retirement following the 1997 season, he held the single-season record for most rushing and receiving yards combined (2,314), second in consecutive 100-yard games, and was third in career-combined yardage. During his 11 seasons with the Raiders, the former University of Southern California standout, was named to the Pro Bowl five times. He added a sixth appearance in 1994, as a member of the Kansas City Chiefs. He was the Raiders leading ground gainer seven consecutive years and the Chiefs four consecutive times. He even led the Raiders in receptions with 51 in 1987.
