Great for my Old Testament course.By PhotoBugI really like the study features of this edition. Serves as a great complement to my Old Testament lectures in college. Maps, notes--all that stuff is very helpful and expands my understanding of what we're covering in classes. And using this Kindle edition makes locating a reference almost instantaneous. No riffling thin pages, searching for one verse, while the professor has already moved on. For the first time ever I'm actually reading along, not flipping pages. (I've had the books of the Bible memorized in order since I was eight years old, but there are an awful lot of pages in a Bible, and it takes a little time to locate a passage, unless you've visited it so many times that the book just falls open there!)A great version. I don't see using my old leather-bound much any more with this on my Kindle.1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. Kindle edition not so difficult to navigateBy Philip J. Bohlken(This review is really about the Kindle edition, not the hardback.) I have been a Lutheran pastor for 40 years. I had looked at the hardback edition of this Bible several times in a store and was favorably impressed. Now I have a Kindle Touch and wanted a study Bible on it for the reference materials so I have some good tools when I am traveling light.I wish the "Go To" tool took me to a table of contents where I could tap on the name of a book and go to the chapter list for that book. The "Go To" tool takes me to a list of explanatory items. If I swipe vertically with my finger, I can get to names of biblical books and tap on the one of my choice. I should also say I recently downloaded new firmware for my Kindle, and that changed how navigation features work in other Bibles I have on my Kindle. I cannot guarantee how navigation features work in this Bible now is how they were designed to work. And, different Kindle models may be similar, but still are different in their menu screens and navigation.I read reviews that speak about how difficult navigating this (and other study Bibles) is, but I have found it quite easy to navigate. The Touch makes things a little difficult because a link for a cross reference may be adjacent to a link for a study note. My fingers are too fat to know for certain which link will open. A suitable stylus will help a lot. A link to a commentary note includes links to support passages. I use the back arrow to get back to where I began. It works just fine, even if I need to use it a couple of times to get back to the text I was viewing.Topic or theme discussions are hot linked in the Bible text where one would want them for quickly jumping to the material and quickly going back to the biblical text.I have already found some notes that do not include key information I read elsewhere, or include things with which I do not totally agree. It is easy to block text as in any book and add my own notations. That includes adding a reference to another passage I believe is important, but is not included in the list of passages provided by the editors.I have other study Bibles I prefer, but this is a good tool to have on my Kindle when I am away from my books.UPDATE: My wife and I each got an iPhone 4s. I installed the free Kindle reader for the iPhone and moved this Bible to the iPhone. It really does not work on the iPhone. Navigation does not work, especially links to passages, etc. It is good on a Kindle, but not in a Kindle app on an iPhone.0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. Hard to understandBy cookIt is hard to move around the book. It uses numbers not words. It would be better to look f or a book b y name not number. I'm not satisfied with this purchase. Ask. Seek. Knock.Receive. Find. Open.ldquo; For everyone who asks, receives. Everyone who seeks, finds. And to everyone who knocks, the door will be opened.rdquo; ?Matthew 7:8Explore the Scriptures with almost 50 of todayrsquo;s top evangelical scholars, including Daniel Block, Barry Beitzel, Tremper Longman, John N. Oswalt, Grant R. Osborne, Norman Ericson, and many more. Every feature in the NLT Study Bible has been created to do more than just impart information. Ask questions, and the NLT Study Bible gives you both the words and the world of the Bible. Seek deeper understanding, and find the meaning and significance of Scripture, not just facts. Knock on the door of Godrsquo;s Word, and see what doors are opened to you.The New Living Translation makes the message clear. The features of the NLT Study Bible bring the world of the Bible to life so that the meaning and significance of its message shine through.ldquo;I enthusiastically recommend the NLT Study Bible for all of my students and to family and friends.rdquo; ?Dr. William H. Each book introduction covers background materials including authorship, setting, meaning and message of the book, an outline, recommended resources and more. 220+ charts, illustrations, maps, and timelines organize and illuminate important information. 200 Greek and Hebrew word studies trace the use of important words throughout the Bible. 90+ profiles paint portraits of major figures in the Bible?good and bad. 50,000+ cross-references connect related verses. Words of Christ in red. The NLT Study Bible brings the Bible into clearer focus, laying the groundwork for readers to have ldquo;now I really get it!rdquo; breakthroughs as they work their way through every part of the Bible. (Nancy Guthrie, author)The NLT Study Bible brings readers of Scripture into the very heart of Godrsquo;s written Word. A wonderful resource for serious Bible study. (Timothy George, founding dean of Beeson Divinity School of Samford University)The NLT Study Bible is an essential tool for the student of the Bible. As no carpentry bench is complete without a hammer, no study desk is equipped without this valuable study Bible. (Max Lucado, NYT bestselling author)We are supposed to ldquo;read, mark, learn, and inwardly digestrdquo; the Bible, but thatrsquo;s easier said than done. The NLT certainly made reading it more understandable, and the NLT Study Bible will most certainly make marking, learning, and digesting more possible, probable, and profitable. (Stuart Briscoe, author, speaker, broadcaster and minister)From the Back CoverSometimes, even when the language is clear, we have questions. What is going on? Why did that happen? Why does this matter? The NLT Study Bible translates both the words and the world of the Bible. The New Living Translation makes the message clear. The features of the NLT Study Bible bring the world of the Bible to life so that the meaning and significance of its message shine through. • Tyndale to Release Ground-Breaking NLT Study Bible for Immediate
For Immediate Release Media Contact: Nancy Guthrie July, 2008 [email protected] 615.376.4430 Tyndale to Release Ground-Breaking NLT Study Bible First Study Bible Simultaneously Released in Print, Online, and Three Electronic Versions Carol Stream, IL—On September 15, 2008, Tyndale Publishing House will launch the ground-breaking NLT Study Bible, which they anticipate will soon become the #1 Study Bible for serious Bible students. A team of 48 scholars and editors have been at work over the last seven years creating the NLT Study Bible, but this kind of study resource has been in Tyndale’s plans since they first launched the effort to create theNew Living Translation nearly twenty years ago. “In the late 1980s we began to bring together a translation team of ninety of the world’s best biblical scholars to create the New Living Translation, which originally released in 1996 and in a second edition in 2004,” explained Mark Taylor, president of Tyndale House and Executive Editor and Chief Stylist of the NLT Study Bible. “From the beginning, our plan was to create not only the clearest accurate English translation of the Bible from the Hebrew and Greek manuscripts, but also to create the most user-friendly study Bible available—which we believe we have done in the NLT Study Bible.” Setting a new standard for the introduction of Bible products, the NLT Study Bible is the first study Bible to release simultaneously not only in a print version, but in a fully-searchable online version, and in the three major electronic Bible formats including WordSearch, PocketBible, and Logos.

  • Four Gospels
INTRODUCTION TO THE FOUR GOSPELS How could an obscure Galilean peasant and carpenter with no academic training and no social status, one who died the most ignominious death imaginable, establish a movement that would conquer the Roman world and become a worldwide religious force? Moreover, how do we affirm the historical trustworthiness of such incredible stories about a man who controlled nature’s forces, healed the sick, cast out demons, raised the dead, and was raised himself after being crucified? The Gospels tell us the story of Jesus—his virgin birth and childhood; his inauguration to ministry; his impact on the people of Judea, Samaria, Galilee, and Phoenicia during his messianic ministry; and his death and resurrection. It is the most important story that history will ever tell, for it chronicles the life of the extraordinary Son of God who has come into this world.
