The Daegu-Gyeongbuk Free Economic Zone Authority was established in 2008, and it is currently designated and operating in 8 districts throughout the Daegu, Gyeongsan, Yeongcheon, and Pohang regions, and it is drawing attention as a support base for new future global industries to lead the way in the Fourth Industrial revolution in the Daegu-Gyeongbuk region. Due to the unforeseen impact of COVID-19 last year, the entire world economy suffered a crisis, and many companies have suffered as a result.     Southeast Asia | Immigration | 10 March 2020 Immigration news alerts COVID-19 COVID-19 (also previously referred to as 2019 Novel Coronavirus or 2019- nCoV) is a virus identified as the cause of an outbreak of respiratory illness first detected in Wuhan, China. While it is unclear how easily this virus is spreading between people, authorities across the globe are issuing travel health notices related to this outbreak. In this series of news alerts, we will provide you with immigration updates to keep you updated on the rapidly evolving situation within our region. Japan Travel restrictions (Translated from Japanese) Ministry of Justice | 7 March 2020 An entry ban applies to foreigners with recent travel history to the following areas within the last 14 days: People’s Republic of China o Hubei Province o Zhejiang Province Republic of Korea o Daegu Metropolitan City o North Gyeongsang Province (including Cheongdo County, Gyeongsan City, Andong City, Yeongcheon City, Chilgok County, Uiseong County, Seongju County, and Gunwi County) Iran o Qom Province o Tehran Province o Gilan Province The ban also applies to foreign nationals who hold a Chinese passport issued in Hubei Province or Zhejiang Province. Foreign nationals on passenger ships who are at risk of being infected with COVID-19 will also not be allowed to enter Japanese ports. Visa applications Visa applications will not be accepted if the applicant has been physically present in any of the areas listed above in the 14 days prior to their visa application. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has announced changes to the infection danger levels on March 4 (See below). Additionally, in different countries/regions there are increased or stricter health checks, or measures for entering the country/region for those who are travelling from Japan. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs site below lists the current information known at this time (Only in Japanese). Please check it or other information before travelling abroad. The closure of even a single bridge, which often acts as a critical link in transportation networks, can have a severe impact on the entire network. This impact can lead to significant economic costs resulting from increased travel distances for drivers. Despite the significance of these costs, however, notably few studies have been conducted to determine the societal economic cost that would be incurred due to bridge closures. One possible reason for the lack of studies investigating bridge closures due to flooding could stem from the difficultly in collecting data. To address this issue, the methodology presented in this paper uses modeling and data resources that are available for major cities in most developed countries, including those in South Korea. We evaluate the economic impact of the bridge closures using the new administrative capital of North Gyeongsang Province, South Korea as a case study.

Bowling, Chair, Professor of Political Science and Public Administration Steven Brown, Professor of Political Science and Public Administration Hua Xu, Assistant Professor of Political Science and Public Administration Keren Deal, Professor of Accounting Abstract In 1994, the South Korean central government initiated a massive merger of city and county governments, and during the next two years, a total of 40 consolidated cities were established. Following the city-county consolidations, there has been significant debate regarding whether the local mergers achieved the desired effect. This study seeks to determine whether the technical efficiency of the consolidated governments improved following the mergers, whether their financial status improved, and whether the disparities between the urban and rural areas were reduced. The literature review in this study identifies the most significant literature and the most prominent theories pertaining governmental size and boundary. It also highlights local governmental consolidation studies previously conducted in both the U.S. and South Korea. Finally, it describes the South Korean local governmental structure, and discusses the process of the city-county consolidations that took place in South Korea from 1994 through 1995. To facilitate the research and analysis related to the city-county consolidations in South Korea, this study has identified and tests the following three hypotheses: •H1: The technical efficiency of consolidated governments improved following the city-county consolidations.
