MANHATTAN MANIA: The Pride will wrestle two of their five home matches, January 28 against Lehigh and February 3 against Cornell, at the New York Athletic Club in Manhattan.

HOFSTRA RETURNEES: Hofstra returns 11 lettermen, six starters, six NCAA qualifiers, five conference champions and two All-Americans from last year’s squad that placed 11th at the NCAA Division I Championships.

RETURNING ALL-AMERICANS: Seniors Mike Patrovich and Chris Weidman are Hofstra’s returning All-Americans in 2006-07. Patrovich, who earned a fourth place finish at 174 pounds at the NCAA Championships last March, has dropped down to 165 pounds this year. Weidman, who placed sixth at 197 pounds last March, earned All-Effort Team honors by the NWCA for his finish at the Championships.

CHIEF RAY DOWNEY, SR. MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP FUND NIGHT: Hofstra University proudly welcomed members of the Downey Family and their friends who came to the November 15th match against Army for the presentation of the Chief Ray Downey, Sr. Memorial Scholarship. This year’s recipients of the scholarship grants, named in memory of the late FDNY hero who was killed in the terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center on September 11, 2001, are Mike Patrovich and James Strouse.

HOFSTRA WRESTLING HISTORY: This is Hofstra’s 59th season of intercollegiate wrestling. The Pride has had 10 coaches direct the wrestling program, beginning with Walter “Brick” Stone in 1947 and currently with Tom Shifflet, who is in his first season.
