April 27, 2018 (Friday)

Botanical and local history excursions (the buses depart at 9.00 from the entrance to BIN RAS at the corner of Karpovka River embankment and Aptekarsky avenue). The following routes are offered: 1) Excursion to City and Izhora Hills. Gatchina City is an old city of Saint- Petersburg Province, housing summer residences of some of the former Russian Emperors and their relatives. During the excursion we plan to visit the Great Gatchina Palace, which was built using local limestone in the end of the 18th century, as well as to provide botanical excursions to the ‘Zverinets’ Park and to the vicinities of Pudost village. During the botanical part of the tour, participants will be delighted to see early spring flowers in bloom (such as: Gagea spp., Corydalis solida, Anemone spp., Daphne mezereum, etc.) as well as special flora enriched by calcephilous species and by Central-European ones, the latter being brought to Gatchina environs with park grass mixes and during the World War II. Price – 1100 rubles (can be paid during the registration). End of the tour no later than 21.00. 2) Excursion to Staraya Ladoga and to Canyon of the Lava River. In the past, Staraya Ladoga was one of the biggest cities of Ancient Novgorod Russia, dating back at least to 750s. One of main local showplaces is the Old Fortress, which has still saved the same appearance since the 9th—10th centuries. On the way, a small floristic excursion will be held in the Canyon of Lava River, which is famous for its limestone, fossils and calcephilous flora, and serves as a place for excursions for Saint-Petersburg botanists during the last 150 years. Price – 1100 rubles (can be paid during the registration). End of the tour no later than 21.00. 3) Excursion to Tzarskoye Selo (the city of Pushkin). It is a part of Saint Petersburg World Heritage Site and represents a large palace with park ensemble constructed in the 18th–beginning of the 19th centuries. The Ekaterininskiy Park with marvelous Ekaterininskiy Palace is situated here, which served for a long time as a residence of Russian Emperors. Price – 1500 rubles (can be paid during the registration). The price includes guided tour, entrance fees and excursion service in Ekaterininskiy Palace. End of the tour no later than 15.00. This excursion is preferable if your departure is scheduled for the Friday evening. 3 5 1 4 7 6 Vyborgskaya
