The Malacological Society of London was founded on 27 February 1893. The Society was registered as a Charity in 1978 (Registration No. 275980) with the Rules which were adopted on 17 May 1978. The objects of the Society are to advance education, research and learning for the public benefit in the study of the Mollusca from both pure and applied aspects. Meetings are held throughout the year. The Annual General Meeting is held in March. Membership is open to all individuals who are interested in the study of molluscs. The annual subscription for 1982 for Private members is £12.00 or S31.20 U.S. & Can.; for Student members £5.00 or $13.00; for Institutional/Library members is £25.00 or $66.60, due on January. Remittances should be drawn in in favour of 'The Malacological Society of London' and sent to the Hon. Secretary with applications or to the Hon. Treasurer with renewals. No receipt will be sent for payments by cheque on members' own accounts at either United Kingdom or United States banks, unless specially requested. Members with accounts at British banks are urged to pay by Standing Order; forms are available from the Hon. Treasurer, United States and Canadian members may pay by Standing Order; forms are available from the Hon. Treasurer. United States and Canadian members may pay by personal cheque. The dollar subscription rates take into account postage and the charges made by the Society's bank for processing foreign cheques. Members are entitled to receive a copy of The Journal of Molluscan Studies, to attend the meetings of the Society, to vote in the election of Council and Officers and are eligible for election to Council and Office. The Journal is issued three times a year, a volume consisting of three parts. The price of a single issue is £10 ($26.00). The annual subscription for non-members is £25.00 ($66.60) post free.
