Rockin’ Hollywood at Zuhrah Shrine

What a fun night and a great time at “The Rocking Hollywoods” at Zuhrah last month. A huge ‘Thank You’ goes out to Kevin & Donna Harding for organizing this hospital fundraiser. Not only was the dancing fun but the silent auction was terrific. Another huge thank you goes out to all of the aides that came to help as well as several people pitched in when needed. Zuhrah couldn’t do it without any of you. Several hundred dollars was made for the hospital. Give your- selves a big round of applause. Dancing the Night Away Rocking around the Clock Oh,What a Night!

East-West Shrine Game 2018 Join us for the 93rd East-West Shrine Game January 20, 2018! Created by the Shriners in 1925, the East-West Shrine Game was the nation’s first college all-star football game. The game is driven by the desire to support Shriners Hospitals for Children in its mission to help children in need of expert medical care.

More than 300 former Shrine Game players on NFL rosters each year

Dear Game Fans: FOOTBALL SEASON is officially underway! It’s our favorite time of the year, and we are incredibly excited to see which top college players will make the final cut for the upcoming 93rd East-West Shrine Game on January 20 at Tropicana Field, St. Petersburg, Florida. Don’t forget about our alumni; the NFL is packed with East-West all- stars! Did you know that there are more than 300 former Shrine Game players on NFL rosters each year? Since the game’s inception, 74 former players have been inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame, and more than 200 former players have been named to the College Football Hall of Fame. No surprise, considering the fact that over 300 NFL scouts and agents travel to meet our East-West All-stars and watch them practice with our expert NFL coaches. Did you know that team practices are open to public viewing? Come watch how players train with NFL coaches for professional teams, and see top NFL scouts in action, grading players and assessing East-West talent. The best part? The East-West Shrine Game is played for the benefit of Shriners Hospitals for Children. Join us, by watching the game live on NFL Network at 3 p.m. EST, or attend in person at Tropicana Field. For full event and team updates, visit shrinegame.com. Sincerely,

Effects of obesity on the bone and joint health of children

Thursday, October 19, 2017, was World Pediatric Bone & Joint Day, and the U.S. Bone and Joint Initiative (USBJI) and Shriners Hospitals for Children were urging doctors and parents to rec- ognize the effects of obesity in children and to take action, to avoid lifelong chal- lenges. Back and hip pain, and bowed legs and knock knees in boys and girls can indicate a possibility of debilitating bone and joint problems later in life. The percentage of children who are overweight or obese has more than dou- bled over the past 30 years, from seven percent in 1980 to 18 percent in 2012. Obesity can affect bones and joints at a young age. If some common conditions, such as back and hip pain, and bowed legs and knock knees, are already apparent, the sooner they are treated the better. In addition, a child who is overweight may not consistently eat foods rich in vitamin D,calcium and other important nutrients which contribute to healthy bones and joints. And, the child's weight may lead him or her not to want to exercise and build bone mass, which is critical to main- tain and improve their health, resulting in undue stress on the musculoskeletal sys- tem that can impair growth and con- tribute to serious childhood or lifelong conditions. 6 ZUHRAH ARABIAN NOVEMBER 2017 ZUHRAH SHRINERS Masonic Relations Potentate’s Pheasant Hunt Committee In the Master Mason Degree, we learn • Wednesday,November 15th – 6:00 p.m. of the legend of Hiram Abif. The drama Toy Drive Pot Luck Dinner, Arcana begins in the second section of the Lodge No. 187, Minneapolis, MN.
