Defence NEW SOUTH WALES NSWNOW_Defence_ART.indd 1 1/10/13 5:50 PM NSW Defence Built on experience. Delivered through innovation. New South Wales is the future of the defence industry. NSWNOW_Defence_ART.indd 2 1/10/13 5:50 PM The State of New South Wales (NSW) offers Australia’s largest and most diverse economy and national leadership in manufacturing, logistics, electronics, ICT, business services and other areas relevant to Australia’s defence needs. All of the major prime defence contractors operate in NSW as they are supported by a strong small to medium enterprise (SME) base, with diverse capabilities supporting maritime, land and air domains. NSW is home to a significant number of Priority Industry Capabilities (PICS) such as the only Navy-suitable dry dock on Australia’s east coast at Garden Island and Strategic Industry Capabilities (SICS) which provide Australia with enhanced Defence self- reliance, ADF operational capability or longer term procurement certainty. The NSW Government and the State’s defence industry are bolstered by a large group of collaborative industry associations that are willing and motivated to support efforts to promote the industry. The coming together of nine different industry organisations with an interest in Defence as the NSW Joint Defence Industry Organisations (JDIO) signifies their shared belief that the defence industry located in NSW is critical to the nation’s Defence effort.
