EXECUTIVE SUMMARY 1.1 INTRODUCTION Gujarat Commerce College is our heritage bequeathed to us by our freedom fighters and our martyred novice Veer Vinod Kinariwala. We the current teachers are the trustees and custodians of the values that pulsate within its existence. One of the oldest and vibrating places during Indian freedom struggle, Gujarat College, the first established college of the state bifurcated its commerce section to aggrandize on 15th July, 1993 as Gujarat Commerce College. Since then the institute has evolved as a unique center by providing equal opportunities for growth and development to students coming from mired strata of society commensurate with its heritage structure and past glory. The institute continuously strive to handover baton of values and ethics to the future citizens of the nation and emboldens them to face the vagaries of future. In order to achieve this, we have incorporated stretched the horizons of academic ambience and facilities that house computer lab, Digital English Language Lab, Wi-Fi campus, classrooms with LCDs, smart board among many others. The pedagogic approaches and styles help the institute to deviate from traditional academics within permissible limit and wings decision making at the smallest level of operation. The multi-level feedbacks point out at the functional lacuna make corrections and help invalidating institutional unique initiatives. The rainbow of activities including NSS, NCC, Sports, Udisha, Finishing school addition to ‘Samvadam’, ‘Amulyam’, Earn While you learn and others, ensure holistic development of students. IQAC stand in good stead for the institutional validation from Government agencies like AAA and NAAC. The involvement, dedication orientation commitment and collaboration of teaching and non- teaching staff, has emerged as rare distribution of the institute. Mission To Mould Students With Excellent And Value Based Commerce Education, Also Enable Holistic Development Of Personality Accessible To All Sections Of The Society. 1.2 Strength, Weakness, Opportunity and Challenges(SWOC) Institutional Strength An institute with U.G. and P.G. Adherence to the Academic Calendar. Academic Planner maintained teacher wise Transparent Mechanism for handling grievances of students pertaining to continuous internal evaluation, attendance or any others Programme Outcomes, Programme Specific Outcomes and Course Outcomes are properly developed and hosted on the institutional website. Around 85% of the students receive different types of scholarship Every year illuminating students excel in academics, stand in top University list and many secure full marks in university exams Increasing number of prizes at inter college, university, inter university and state level competitions in fine arts, performing arts etc. Our students excel in sports at international level Promotion of planning, executing management, leadership qualities in students through Seminars, Lecture Series, Cultural programmes, Programmes under Students Representative Council, Talent shows, Elocutions, Group discussions, Quizzes and such other programmes. Institutional sensitivity towards character building through ‘Swami Vivekanand Rotating Trophy’ an inter college elocution competition, under its auspices. Collaboration with eminent HEIs and training institutes (including SPIPA of Government of Gujarat) 24/7 open reading area of institutional library Institution’s own publication house (11 books published) and International Peer reviewed annual journal, ‘GCC Multidisciplinary Research Journal’ Hosting state level/ national level conferences/ seminars preferably every year A rainbow of art and craft 3 day workshop, fortnightly lecture series ‘Samvadam’, coaching initiative ‘Amulyam’, give back to society initiative ‘Pradanam’ and many others Technological advancements in form of DELL, TALLY, CCTV coverage, personalized computer, biometric attendance 24 hours positioning of security guards Lush green campus and picturesque ambience in the heart of the city, heritage buildings of historical importance Shifting from conventional energy to Solar Energy with the help of solar panels installation, environment friendly campus Student Representative Council involves- GS, LR, CRs in decision making including financial matters. Focus shifting from traditional academics to enhancing employability skills through ‘Samvadam’ a fortnightly lecture series Responsible dedicated efforts towards paperless office Replacing Conventional Energy with Solar Energy Making the entire campus Wi- Fi enables Strengthening the college and industry collaboration Convenience of exploring part time job opportunities- Locational advantage Making informal coaching of NET, SET, JRF formal Institutional Challenge Students’ advancement in terms of Higher Education and Employment Better packages in placement yet to achieve Institutional library remains to be completely automatize Implementing e governance mechanism throughout the college Research funding through projects Improving language and communication skills among students Approval and sanctions take longer time in government Nurturing and polishing socio- economic weaker section of students 1.3 CRITERIA WISE SUMMARY Curricular Aspects Gujarat commerce college is a government institute affiliated to Gujarat university where different programmes function under CBCS. Within the bounds of prescribed curricula, university academic calendar and government directive from time to time institutional academic calendar is prepared. Subject wise faculty members meet and are allotted with topics for teaching and prepare modules. Departmental periodic meetings, continuous monitoring and periodic review meetings are conducted by the principal regularly. Novices are given tablets at token price from two years. Class counsellors mentor students and address hindrances in the process of learning if any. Need based coaching for slow learners and advance learners is provided. UG and PG programs of the same faculty enable faculty members to comprehensively impute the scope and restraints of the prescribed curricula and evince to the respective Boards of studies of Gujarat University for continuity of concepts, theories, updation and avoidance of repetition. Curriculum feedback from all stakeholders are sought orally as well as in written, reviewed and forwarded to the Board of studies of Gujarat university and many have resulted in subsequent amendments.
