MY BRADFORD

Photojournalist Tim Smith takes you on a guided tour of Bradford, as seen through the lens of his camera

The centrepiece of Victorian Bradford’s building boom was City Hall (1). The extraordinary interior of the Wool Exchange (2) demonstrated the wealth and pride of those who traded beneath its high, beamed 4 5 6 7 10 roof. Go past the National Media Museum (3) and the Alhambra Theatre (4), dodge the fountains in City Park’s mirror pool (5) and you reach John Street Market (6). My particular favourite is the homemade cheesecake from the Polish deli, or popping around the corner for a drink at the Sparrow Café (7). Saltaire (8) once sold cloth to all over the world; it’s now home to the world’s largest collection of David Hockney paintings (9). From here you can walk (or run, or cycle) along the Leeds Liverpool Canal (10), which if you go far enough leads to the Yorkshire Dales.
