Senior Matt Wade started 24 matches last season and fi gures to be one of the top setters in the conference this season. Junior Kevin Ker played in 30 matches last season and recorded seven starts. “We’re fortunate to have two quality setters,” said Scates. “Whoever starts will be the one who is playing the best in practice that week.” Practice performance also means consistent serving. Th e starkest contrast between Ker and Wade lies in their success at the service line. Wade served nine aces last season, but made just 24 errors. His short fl oat serve creates problems for many opponents

    Pro Beach Brothers in Arms 20 digbeachvolleyball.com | 2020 #1 Brothers in Arms In the long lineage of notable sibling beach teams, teenagers Marcus and Miles Partain are up there with the best hen it comes to discussing the greatest brother combinations in beach volleyball history, much of the oxygen in the room gets sucked up by the Crabb brothers. And rightfully so. They keep adding to their resumes with significant honors – most recently, Taylor’s 4-Star FIVB tournament with Jake Gibb (November in Chetumal,W Mexico) and Trevor’s sublime triumph at the Manhattan Beach Open last August. But while Taylor and Trevor won a few NORCECAs playing together, they could never capture an AVP or FIVB title, which, in part, led them to seek different partners. The Crabbs are not the only elite brother combo (see page 22) to seek the pro beach volleyball limelight. In fact, the most intriguing set of siblings may be the Partains, 19-year-old Marcus and 18-year-old Miles. Together, they were the youngest team to make an AVP main draw, which they achieved in Hermosa Beach, California, in July of 2017. La Fase Intercontinentale inizierà il 17 giugno e si concluderà il 3 luglio. L’Italia, come di consueto, è inserita nel gruppo 1 che comprende tutte le migliori squadre del mondo. Le pool della fase eliminatoria Gruppo 1 Il Gruppo 1 sarà a dodici squadre e includerà le otto partecipanti del 2015 - Australia, Brasile, Iran, Italia, Polonia, Russia, Serbia e Stati Uniti -; la vincente del Gruppo 2 dello scorso anno - Francia - e le wild card Argentina, Belgio e Bulgaria. Durante la Fase Intercontinentale le squadre giocheranno in pool da quattro squadre ciascuna durante tre fine settimana, le prime cinque squadre più i padroni di casa della Polonia prenderanno parte alla Final Six dal 13 al 17 Luglio a Cracovia. They will be honored at the fourth induction banquet/charity auction on Sunday night, May 3 at Anaheim’s Highway 39 Event Center. There are International Volleyball and AVCA Hall of Fame members and names that are legends in the sport. Headlining are 1964 & 68 Olympian Jane Ward, triple USA All-Era team member Manny Saenz and NCAA champion as a player and coach as well as 2012 USA Olympic Coach Alan Knipe from Long Beach State. Other inductees include a rare USA indoor and beach Olympian and NCAA championship player Jeff Nygaard, who is currently the USC men’s head coach and 1968 Olympic starting setter and San Diego State men’s coach for its only NCAA school title, Jack Henn. More include Henn’s SDSU star player and also NCAA championship coach Duncan McFarland, plus NCAA champion and 1988 Olympic Gold Medalist Troy Tanner, who coached Kerri Walsh-Jennings and Misty May-Treanor to Olympic Gold on the beach in 2008. Add in retired Long Beach State women’s coach Dixie Grimmett, who coached the first unbeaten team in collegiate history. Completing the SCIVBHOF lineup are USA National Team standout, UCLA All-American and coach for over 400 college wins, Terry Condon, plus the ‘father of USC men’s volleyball’ and two-time NCAA championship coach Ernie Hix.
