Zárójelentés Az OTKA K 68538 számú „Molekuláris és morfo-taxonómiai kutatások a Rubiaceae családban” cím ű pályázatáról. (2007–2012) ELŐZMÉNYEK A Rubiaceae család a Föld negyedik legnépesebb virágos növény családja több mint 700 nemzetséggel és több mint 13.000 fajjal. A közel 2 millió km 2-nyi terület ű Mexikói Államszövetség flórája a Föld negyedik leggazdagabb növényvilága. Ebben a Rubiaceae a negyedik legnagyobb nemzetség- és fajszámú család, amely még további feltárást igényel. A családot mindenütt specialisták kutatják és dolgozzák fel. Világviszonylatban mintegy 15–20 ilyen specialista van. A témavezet őt a Karib térség szakért őjeként 2000-ben kérte fel a mexikói UNAM a Flora deGuerrero projektben való részvételre, miután 1992 óta vesz részt a mexikói flóra feltárásában. A korszer ű vizsgálatokhoz 2000-től felállt egy mikromorfológiai-molekuláris team, amely külföldi neves kutatóm űhelyekkel részben együttm űködésben, (Göteborg, New York) részben versenyben (Missouri, Stockholm, Texas), végezte kutató tevékenységét. Ennek eredményeként született meg 41 tudományos közlemény és az Akadémiai Kiadó gondozásában 2006 november végén megjelent Rubiáceas de México cím ű flóram ű 512 oldalon, spanyol nyelven 107 eredeti m űvészi tollrajz ábratáblával. A könyv unikális abban a tekintetben, hogy a mai napig az egyetlen olyan flóram ű, amely egy nagy növénycsalád feldolgozását a 32 tagállamot magába foglaló Mexikói Államszövetség egész területére tartalmazza, és abban a tekintetben is, hogy alapjaiban molekuláris filogenetikai kutatások eredményeire támaszkodik. A flóram ű els ő kiadása is részben az OTKA, valamint a Szilárd Leó kutatási ösztöndíj támogatásával jelent meg. ABSTRACT Background. Mexico is one of the most floristically rich countries in the world. Despite significant contributions made on the understanding of its unique flora, the knowledge on its diversity, geographic distribution and human uses, is still largely fragmented. Unfortunately, deforestation is heavily impacting this country and native tree species are under threat. The loss of trees has a direct impact on vital ecosystem services, affecting the natural capital of Mexico and people's livelihoods. Given the importance of trees in Mexico for many aspects of human well-being, it is critical to have a more complete understanding of their diversity, distribution, traditional uses and conservation status. We aimed to produce the most comprehensive database and catalogue on native trees of Mexico by filling those gaps, to support their in situ and ex situ conservation, promote their sustainable use, and inform reforestation and livelihoods programmes. Methods. A database with all the tree species reported for Mexico was prepared by compiling information from herbaria and reviewing the available floras. An Update on Security, Migration, and U.S. Assistance By Adam Isacson, Senior Associate for Regional Security; Maureen Meyer, Senior Associate for Mexico and Migrant Rights; and Hannah Smith, Program Assistant November 2015 Key Findings migration crackdown has been changes in how migrants are traveling. With decreased possibilities of boarding the train in Chiapas, migrants and smugglers are now relying on different and dangerous routes and modes of transportation, including by foot, vehicle, and boat. These routes expose migrants to new vulnerabilities while simultaneously isolating them from the network of shelters established along traditional routes. Raids and operations to prevent migrants from riding atop cargo trains, known collectively as La Bestia, have been the most visible and aggressive enforcement efforts under the Southern Border Program. Migration authorities have blocked migrants from boarding trains, pulled migrants off of trains, and raided establishments that migrants are known to frequent, detaining thousands. The train operations have prompted concerns about excessive use-of-force and other abuses by the authorities involved. U.S. assistance to help Mexico secure its southern border region has increased, though there is limited transparency regarding dollar values, recipient units, equipment, and training. Additionally, some of the U.S.-donated equipme has seen little use and was reported to be ill-suited for the terrain in this region. For example, U.S.-donated observation towers serve little purpose at the densely forested Mexico-Guatemala border. U.S.-donated biometric data equipment was also observed to be in disuse or only used sporadically. The Southern Border Program brought an increase in mobile checkpoints, and new customs facilities have opened since its launch. -

Los resultados indican que la fora vascular preliminar está compuesta por 118 familias, 344 géneros y 504 especies, principalmente de la selva alta perennifolia. Diez especies fueron registradas en alguna categoría de riesgo con base en la Nor- ma Ofcial Mexicana (NOM-059-SEMARNAT-2010). Dentro de la región resaltan los árboles como las formas biológicas más abundantes, seguidos de las hierbas, epíftas y arbustos. Se registró el nombre común para 366 especies y algún uso para 239 de ellas. Se presentan 25 nuevos registros para 22 especies no registradas previamente en Chiapas y tres para México. -

Mexico and the GEF
Mexico and the GEF Mexico is one of the world's 12 megadiverse countries, with more than 10 percent of the biological diversity of the planet1. A combination of mountainous terrain and the country’s location in the neo-arctic and neo-tropical transition zone contributes to Mexico's high alpha, beta and gamma biodiversity. Mexico is particularly rich in the number of species present in the country2. Mexico is also considered to be one of the countries with the highest ecological diversity in the hemisphere3. The GEF portfolio in Mexico includes 54 national projects for more than $450 million –23 projects in biodiversity, 19 in climate change, six multifocal, four in chemicals and two in international waters. Mexico has also been part of 30 regional and global projects representing more than $196 million –10 projects in biodiversity, seven in climate change, five multifocal, six in international waters and two in chemicals. Regarding the GEF Small Grants Programme (SGP), Mexico, as an upgraded country, has received more than $13 million for over 577 CSOs and community-based projects since its start in 1994. Considering the globally relevant biodiversity and Mayan cultural identity in the Yucatan Peninsula, Mexico was the first SGP to be implemented regionally. In 1999, the scope was expanded to the Pantanos de Centla Biosphere Reserve and the Coastal Plain of Tabasco. In 2006, project finance was extended to Chiapas and since 2012 the Programme operates in the Yucatan Peninsula, Tabasco state and 9 micro-regions in the Chiapas state. CSO Experiences in Mexico The active engagement of CSOs in actions to protect the global environment has contributed to the national portfolio in Mexico, which includes numerous projects implemented by and in partnership with CSOs. -

Anaxagorea A. St. Hil. By G.E. Schatz. Shrubs to medium trees. Stems terete, usually initially densely ferruginous to brown puberulous, often glabrescent. Leaves narrowly elliptic to elliptic to rarely obovate, membranous to chartaceous to slightly coriaceous, upper surface glabrous, lower surface initially puberulous and then glabrescent, the primary vein flat to slightly impressed above, raised below, the secondary venation brochidodromous, flat, slightly raised, or slightly impressed above, raised below, the base acute to rounded and sometimes decurrent, the apex acute to acuminate and sometimes cuspidate. Petioles canaliculate, densely puberulous. Inflorescences axillary or often ramiflorous, 1-several flowered rhipidia, distinctly pedunculate or not; pedicels usually thickening toward the apex, borne in the axil of a minute triangular bract and bearing a larger, usually ampexicaul, broadly ovate bract just below the calyx to midway between the base of the pedicel and calyx, persistent or caducous, densely puberulous. Flowers buds globose, ovoid, or conical. Sepals 3, free, or fused initially and then splitting to their base, valvate to slightly imbricate, ovate to broadly ovate, chartaceous, densely puberulous, erect to often reflexed, rarely caducous prior to anthesis.
