He is also President of the Greater Texarkana Branch of the NAACP. He has taught every math class from developmental mathematics through calculus. Because of his tireless efforts, Robert has received numerous awards and recognitions. He was the Volunteer of the Year for the city of Texarkana, Texas, Wilbur Smith award winner for working with youth, Alumni Brother of the Year for Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. and Sam’s Club Teacher of the Year, just to mention a few. He serves as the advisor to the Black Student Association at Texarkana College and mentor for the Texarkana Independent School District. Professor Jones teaches the students chess whenever he gets an opportunity to do so. He believes that playing chess helps to develop the student’s cognitive skills and exercises the mind. Robert is trying to dispel negative attitudes that students have about math. Because many students and people in general, struggle with math concepts, he gives them the winning equation to solve their math problems.
