Please see page 117 for my remembrances of them. Introduction Benjamin Warden Childs was a descendant of Henry Childs, Sr. who was born in 1652 in Whielden, Amersham, England. Henry married Ann Ball in 1671 in Amersham, Hertford County, England. They had 10 children all born in England: Benjamin, Sarah, Mary, Ann, Henry Jr. (Ben's great-great-grandfather), Ruth, Rachel, Cephas, John and William. Sometime after his wife's death in 1696 in England, Henry immigrated to the United States with his 10 children and purchased land in Anne Arundel County, MD on October 5, 1702. As of this writing I have been unable to determine exactly when and where they landed in the US. It should be noted that Henry Childs, Sr. owned land in Plumstead, Bucks County, PA about 1681, but returned to England where he and his family lived until sometime between 1696 and 1702. On April 7, 1715, he conveyed his Pennsylvania land to his son Cephas who was living in Philadelphia at the time.

(From notes of David W Carr) The name of Carr, Ker, Kerr or Karre is as old as the Norman Conquest by William of Normandy in 1066. One of the followers of William I is recorded in the Roll Of The Gattle Abbey as the name of Karre. The early descendants of this Norman soldier and succeeding generations spread on both sides of the border of England and Scotland.Direct lines can be traced through various peerage books of England and Scotland to Andrew Kerr I, the 6th Baron of Ferniehirst, Scotland. He was born in 1450 , created Baron in 1480 and knighted in 1483. He and his son Andrew II, 7th Baron of Ferniehirst, were remarkable men for talent and undaunted courage, conspicious in reigns of James IV and James V. Andrew Kerr II, died in 1543. His son Sir John Kerr, 8th Baron of Ferniehirst, did great service against the English and rescued Queen Mary from incursions by the English against the Scots.

The Foreign “Other”: Uses of the International Context in English Political Propaganda of the Late Seventeenth Century By Hilary White Submitted in Partial Fulfillment of the Prerequisite for Honors in History April 2012 Copyright 2012 Hilary White ABSTRACT This thesis explores the use of the international context in the English political propaganda campaigns during the 1688‐9 Revolution. The study focuses on how propagandists used Ireland, Scotland, France, and the United Provinces to impact and influence political sentiments regarding issues of religion, toleration, and rights of the monarchy within England. Both Williamite and Jacobite propagandists used allusions to international political, religious, and ideological issues to garner support for their distinct ideas for the future of England’s development. As these two groups consistently placed England in ideological opposition to foreign ‘others’ within their writings, these parties struggled to define a unique and unified identity for the Kingdom of England and its people. Acknowledgements First, I would like to thank the Wellesley College History Department for all their intellectual support in enabling me to complete this honours thesis. In particular, I would like to thank Professor Nikhil Rao, Professor Alejandra Osorio, and Professor Megan Kerr for serving on my defense committee. Additional thanks go to the staff at Clapp Library of Wellesley College and the Bodleian Library of Oxford University for their assistance in my endless quest for more primary sources. To the Schwartz family, I am incredibly grateful for the research funding. My greatest gratitude goes to my thesis advisor, Professor Ryan Frace. Professor Frace has served as my constant source of motivation, encouragement, and much needed criticisms.
