Ipain Hero of Hope Finalists 2018 iPain Hero of Hope Finalists 2018 Nerve To Be Heard Sarah Hyland – Los Angeles, CA www.twitter.com/Sarah_Hyland Sarah had a kidney transplant in 2012 and has been open about her diagnosis of kidney dysplasia. However, earlier this year, she also revealed on social media that she's been suffering from "chronic pain," which she continues to struggle with now. "For all of my invisible illness, chronic illness, chronic pain warriors — continue to do what you love," she urged fans on Instagram this week. "Find what you love and focus on that because that is so much better than any type of physical pain." Sarah Hyland was born in New York City to actors Melissa D. Canaday and Edward James Hyland. She began in the business at the age of 4 with commercial work and voice overs. Her first film was Private Parts. She then moved on to The Object of My Affection and then spent time on Another World as "Rain Wolfe", a child found in the park, and fostered by Josie and Gary. Sarah would go on to work with Amy Carlson ("Josie" on AW) several more times: Falcone, Law & Order and Law & Order: Trial by Jury. Sarah was cast as one of the young "Audrey Hepburns" in Jennifer Love Hewitt's The Audrey Hepburn Story the same year she was cast as "Molly" in ABC's Annie starring Kathy Bates, Audra McDonald, Alan Cumming, Victor Garber and Kristin Chenoweth, Joe Gould's Secret and Falcone. Aside from all of her film and television work, Sarah studied voice, ballet, jazz, hip-hop, tap, Theatre Dance, and performed with her tap and Theatre dance class at "Reel to Real" at Lincoln Center as invited performers. One Day At A Time TV Show Producer Team - Gloria Calderon Kellet, Norman Lear, Mike Royce Los Angeles, CA www.twitter.com/OneDayAtATime, @everythingloria, @TheNormanLear and @MikeRoyce The Executive Producers of "One Day At A Time" are innovatively and creative bringing attention to Mental Heath, PTS, Veterans and Chronic Pain. While the situation may be funny, the One Day At A Time team never fail to touch the heart and raise awareness about issues facing the chronic pain population, especially Veterans. (One episode featured Penelope getting ready to call the VA for an appointment and she had her snacks, unfolded laundry, a pile of magazines and more snacks.) A reality that whether you are dealing with the Veteran's Administration or a Doctor's office patients and caregivers understand. Specifically, in Season 2 of "One Day At A Time" available on Netflix the episode titled "Hello Penelope" deals with a deftly handles a mental health crisis. Lydia, the grandmother has a stroke in the Season 2 Finale and ramifications of that are being addressed currently in Season 3. Norman Lear, Gloria Caledron-Kellett and Mike Royce are three individuals who have had to overcome the challenges of being unique voices in the entertainment community. These three people are not afraid of what people may say, they all have the "Nerve to Be Heard" and use their writing and production talents to create an impactful way to support the chronic pain community - with humor and a few tears. The nominees for "One Day At A Time" have inspired many from the LGBTQ community to the Veteran who feels isolated, ODAAT (One Day At A Time) presents and shows that it is okay to seek help and reach out to a support group for help. A Season 2 episode, showed the harsh reality of choosing to stop talking your medication. My nominees are inspiring and creative using the power of storytelling to impact the chronic pain (and other) communities. By presenting and representing the Latina family in a real and human way, making it easy for everyone to feel empathy and understand the pain and love the Alvarez Family and these three incredible Executive Producers have brought forward. iPain Hero of Hope Finalists 2018 Karen Duffy - NY Times Bestselling author, actor and pain patient advocate New York City, NY www.twitter.com/duffynyc I've dedicated my social media to document awareness and advocacy and understanding. My new book Backbone shares the message that pain is inevitable, yet suffering is optional. I've written 30 articles and travel as a public speaker on the theme “Always laugh when you can as it is cheap medicine" Lord Byron. I'm a founding board member of the Foundation for Sarcoidosis Research and Association for Intractable Pain. All royalties from Backbone are donated to help people living with chronic pain. Joe Rogan - Los Angeles, CA www.twitter.com/joerogan “Pain is inevitable. Suffering is optional. “A quote that I had wrote down as my motivational quote of the day. Thought some people here might also appreciate it. “Pain is inevitable. Suffering is optional. Say you're running and you think, 'Man, this hurt, I can't take it anymore. The 'hurt' part is an unavoidable reality, but whether or not you can stand anymore is up to the runner himself.”. - Haruki Murakami Joe Rogan talks about the amount of people addicted to pain pills in the USA. From the Joe Rogan Experience Podcast, JRE #1101 - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ti8OPvqYNJY. I’ve suffered from several back injuries over the years (bulging discs) from jiujitsu and working out. One of the things that has helped me a lot is using one of those Teeter Inversion Tables…I strap my ankles into this thing and I hang upside down – it’s a great way to decompress your back and get rid of pain. Joe Rogan has been talking about the benefits of spinal decompression for years. Like many people, Joe “tried everything” to find back pain relief before turning to inversion therapy. Amazed by the results, he now uses inversion as a part of his daily routine to maintain a healthy spine and active lifestyle without pain. Listen to his recent endorsement of Teeter on the Joe Rogan Experience podcast episode “JRE MMA Show #27 with Robin Black,” along with his previous mentions of Teeter inversion products and/or spinal decompression over the years. As a side note, Jesse Ventura is a HUGE fan of Teeter – just listen to his enthusiasm as he explains how the Teeter Inversion Table relieves his pain! Charles Mattocks Orlando, FL www.twitter.com/CMattocks1 Perhaps Mattocks’ most prominent work as of late has been as creator, producer, and host of “Reversed,” a reality television show on Discovery Life Channel that follows 5 patients with diabetes as they try to better their disease control through treatment, diet, and lifestyle changes. The show (now on season 2), which aired its first season last year, was not just the first to focus on diabetes on national television. It led to real-world results in the patients which they had not previously believed to be possible. Some lost 60 or more pounds. Others reduced their rate of medication—or even insulin, to a complete stop. Most of the patients, Mattocks said, gained a perspective that life was “something worth living.” Inducing individual miracles with just the help of a handful of healthcare experts made him wonder: why aren’t these results more common across the country? “If we can do that with almost next to nothing, and the healthcare system that’s spending billions of dollars can’t do it, we know the issue lies in the money,” Mattocks said. .

I’m talking about Gloria Calderón Kellett, the Executive Producer and Co-Showrunner of Netflix's One Day at a Time. I even got to visit her office at the Sony Pictures lot, which to be honest, is like most offices except that in the buildings nearby, crews are taping some of America’s favorite TV shows. Calderón Kellett: We are. See my pictures? Menendez: I got sort of emotional walking up to your office. This is such a big deal, Gloria. Do you remember every day how it’s a big deal? Calderón Kellett: Yeah. Yeah, for sure I remember every day.
