June 18, 2018, Issue 606 Inside View: CMT Music Awards Two weeks ago, CMT GM Frank Tanki noted the network’s larger CMA Fest footprint (CAW 6/4) – one that CMT Music Awards viewers may have noticed extended to the show itself. With multiple offsite performances and a venue home unaffected (sadly) by the hockey playoffs, this year’s event focused on new music and earned stable audience numbers (CAT 6/7). CMT VP/Music Events Margaret Comeaux walked Country Aircheck through putting the show together. MC: Obviously he’d been here quite a few years, and under his leadership or Frank Tanki’s, our team does what it does. We rally, do our part and just come together to get the job done. Visual Metaphors on Album Covers: an Analysis Into Graphic Design's
Visual Metaphors on Album Covers: An Analysis into Graphic Design’s Effectiveness at Conveying Music Genres by Vivian Le A THESIS submitted to Oregon State University Honors College in partial fulfillment of the requirements for the degree of Honors Baccalaureate of Science in Accounting and Business Information Systems (Honors Scholar) Presented May 29, 2020 Commencement June 2020 AN ABSTRACT OF THE THESIS OF Vivian Le for the degree of Honors Baccalaureate of Science in Accounting and Business Information Systems presented on May 29, 2020. Title: Visual Metaphors on Album Covers: An Analysis into Graphic Design’s Effectiveness at Conveying Music Genres. Abstract approved:_____________________________________________________ Ryann Reynolds-McIlnay The rise of digital streaming has largely impacted the way the average listener consumes music. Consequentially, while the role of album art has evolved to meet the changes in music technology, it is hard to measure the effect of digital streaming on modern album art. This research seeks to determine whether or not graphic design still plays a role in marketing information about the music, such as its genre, to the consumer. It does so through two studies: 1. A computer visual analysis that measures color dominance of an image, and 2. A mixed-design lab experiment with volunteer participants who attempt to assess the genre of a given album. Findings from the first study show that color scheme models created from album samples cannot be used to predict the genre of an album. Further findings from the second theory show that consumers pay a significant amount of attention to album covers, enough to be able to correctly assess the genre of an album most of the time. -

UNIVERSITY OF CINCINNATI DATE: May 15, 2003 I, James Gilbert Jenkins , hereby submit this as part of the requirements for the degree of: Master of Architecture in: The Department of Architecture of the College of DAAP It is entitled: New World Trade Approved by: Michael McInturf Arati Kanekar NEW WORLD TRADE A thesis submitted to the Division of Research and Advanced Studies of the University of Cincinnati in partial fulfillment of the requirements for the degree of MASTER OF ARCHITECTURE In the Department of Architecture Of the College of Design, Art, Architecture, and Planing 2003 by James G. Jenkins B.S., University of Cincinnati, 2001 Committee Chair : Michael Mcinturf Abstract In these Modern Times, “facts” and “proofs” seem necessary for achieving any credibility in a field where there is a client. To arrive at a “truth,” many architects quickly turn to a dictionary for the final “truth” of a word, such as “privacy” or to a road map to find the “truth” in site conditions, or to a census count for the “truth” of people migration. It is, of coarse, part of the Modern Crisis that many feel the need to go with the way of technology, for fear that Architecture might otherwise fall by the wayside because of its perceived irrelevancy or frivolousness. Following this action, with time, could very well reduce Architecture to a form of methodology and inevitably end with the replacement or removal of the profession from its importance- as creators of a “Truth.” The following thesis is a serious reclamation. The body of work moves to take back for Architecture its power, and specifically it holds up and praises the most important thing we have, but in modern times have been giving away: Life. -

For Immediate Release For More Information Kristi Olds (860) 989-7623, [email protected] Connecticut REALTORS, iHeartMedia and WTNH News 8 Help Raise More than $600,000 to Combat Opioid Use Disorder in Connecticut Hartford/New Haven, CT (December 12, 2019) — At least two people in Connecticut die every day from an opioid overdose. In a comprehensive effort to combat that staggering number, Connecticut REALTORS®, iHeartMedia and WTNH News 8 teamed up to raise money and build awareness to fight the stigma around Connecticut’s opioid crisis. This coalition raised more than $600,000 to help people across Connecticut get the assistance and support services they need. As part of a multi-month, multi-platform campaign that included public service announcements and news stories, four-time GRAMMY Award Winner Keith Urban headlined an opioid awareness concert at Mohegan Sun Arena titled “A Concert for Recovery.” Proceeds from the concert ticket sales to the public were donated by CT REALTORS® to the CT REALTORS® Foundation to provide charitable grants to organizations in CT addressing all aspects of the opioid crisis. In addition, Ticketmaster donated its fees associated with the concert tickets to the CTR Foundation. That combination, plus proceeds from a “text to donate” campaign totaled more than $600,000! “The focus of this campaign is to break the stigma associated with opioid use disorder and we are already seeing the evidence that it’s working,” said Michael Barbaro, chair of the CT REALTORS® Opioid Work Group. “We are hearing so many positive stories of people who are struggling that are now reaching out for help. -

WUNDERLICH, MSC University of Glasgow Keywords Street art; museums; exhibition; open-air museum; Amsterdam Abstract Noteworthy museums in Europe and North America have organized international exhibitions that appropriated street art to display within a gallery space. This paper argues that the restrictive framework of the ‘white cube’ museum space is incompatible for the display of street art. As the museum redefines its role in our society and carefully crafts appropriate narratives around cultural objects, it must also rethink its presentation of artworks like street art. All cultures deserve to have their story told in their way, and their objects authentically displayed – including street art culture. Taken from a larger research project, this article considers the conceptual relationship between street art and the museum, and physical display of the artwork. Rather than forcing the art to conform to the museum, the strategies of the Street Art Museum of Amsterdam are highlighted to provide opportunities for the museum to reconsider its role in the presentation of street art. -
