Press Release December 9, 2019 Press Release December 9, 2019 (911 GT3 RS: Fuel consumption combined 12.8 l/100 km; CO2 emissions combined 291 g/km) Preview, FIA World Endurance Championship WEC, round 4, Sakhir/Bahrain Porsche tackles last race of the year as world championship leaders Stuttgart. Porsche intends to conclude its extremely successful 2019 motorsport sea- son with another highlight at the eight-hour race of the FIA World Endurance Champi- onship (WEC) in Bahrain on 14 December. The sports car manufacturer from Stuttgart holds a convincing lead in the world championship after the new Porsche 911 RSR claimed a one-two at Silverstone (Great Britain) and Shanghai (China) as well as po- dium finishes at Fuji (Japan). Both Porsche duos are also at the top of the drivers’ standings. In the GTE-Am classification, three customer teams field a total of five Por- sche 911 RSR in last year’s spec at the long-distance race in the Gulf region. The race The Bahrain International Circuit has hosted the Formula 1 Grand Prix regularly since 2004. The WEC world sports car championship was first contested on the 5.412-kilo- metre circuit close to the capital Manama in its 2012 inaugural season – the only ex- ception was in the 2018/2019 Super Season. At this year’s return to the challenging racetrack, the FIA WEC will race over eight hours for the first time. High daytime tem- peratures, falling temperatures at dusk and sand at times covering the asphalt make the race a big challenge for teams, engineers and drivers. Tyre wear on the Grand Prix circuit with its 15 turns is regarded as a critical factor for potential success. In 2015, the French works drivers Patrick Pilet and Frédéric Makowiecki won the GTE-Pro class in the Porsche 911 RSR. Dr. Ing. h.c. F. The successful duo leads the overall standings after winning the previous race in Shanghai as well as achieving second place at both Silverstone and Fuji. The winners of the season-open- ing round in Great Britain, Richard Lietz (Austria) and Gianmaria Bruni (Italy), helm the No. 91 sister car. The new Porsche 911 RSR also underlined its enormous potential at the previous races of the 2019/2020 season with pole positions in Japan and China. The customer teams The German customer team Dempsey-Proton Racing fields two Porsche 911 RSR in last year’s spec. At the wheel of the No. 77 car are Porsche Young Professional Matt Campbell (Australia), team owner Christian Ried (Germany) and the Italian Riccardo Pera. Porsche Young Professional Thomas Preining from Austria shares the cockpit of the No. 88 sister car. Porsche Young Professional Matteo Cairoli (Italy) joins forces with Egidio Perfetti (Nor- way) and David Heinemeier Hansson (Denmark) in the No. 56 Porsche 911 RSR fielded by the German customer squad Project 1. The No. 57 vehicle is shared by the two Dutchmen Larry ten Voorde and Jeroen Bleekemolen and the American Ben Keat- ing. Gulf Racing’s No. 86 car is manned by the all-British line-up of Michael Wainwright, Ben Barker and Andrew Watson. The Porsche 911 RSR The new Porsche 911 RSR (2019 model year) contests its maiden race in the world sports car championship. The vehicle from Weissach, which produces around 515 hp depending on the air restrictor, is based on the high-performance 911 GT3 RS road- going sports car. Compared to its extremely successful predecessor model, the car for the GTE-Pro class of the FIA WEC received improvements to areas such as driveabil- ity, efficiency, ergonomics and serviceability. About 95 percent of the car is new. The 911 RSR is powered by a 4.2-litre, six-cylinder boxer engine. Dr. Ing. h.c. F. For a fee, the FIA WEC app offers live streaming and live timing. Comments before the race Fritz Enzinger (Vice President Motorsport): “An almost unparalleled year for Por- sche Motorsport comes to an end with the eight-hour race in Bahrain. We intend to underscore our outstanding form with another success. We have won all world cham- pionship titles as well as the North American championship with the predecessor model of the Porsche 911 RSR. The new car has continued this success streak from the previous WEC season seamlessly. At the end of the year, we want to once again demonstrate the potential of the new 911 RSR and head into the 2020 season as the leaders of the world championship.” Pascal Zurlinden (Director Factory Motorsport): “The last works outing of this year will be a big challenge. The Bahrain circuit is physically demanding and tyre wear is extremely high. As always, we will prepare meticulously and systematically. Porsche has always been particularly strong over long distances – in terms of the car and driver performance as well as strategy. We want to underline this once again with the new Porsche 911 RSR at the eight-hour race in Bahrain.” Dr. Ing. h.c. F. Porsche Aktiengesellschaft 3 of 6 Communications, Sustainability and Politics Porscheplatz 1 Motorsport Communications 70435 Stuttgart Oliver Hilger Phone +49 (0)711 911 – 26509 [email protected] Press release December 9, 2019 Alexander Stehlig (Head of Operations FIA WEC): “We had a dream start into the season with our new Porsche 911 RSR. Two double victories, two pole positions, po- dium results at every round and we’re leading all championship classifications – what more could you ask for? Of course, to build on this at the next race and continue the success streak. Bahrain is a challenging circuit and it’s the first race of the 2019/2020 season over a really long distance. The team is preparing intensively for this challenge in order to conclude the year successfully for Porsche.” Richard Lietz (Porsche 911 RSR #91): “After the four-hour race in China, we’re now facing double the distance in Bahrain. That poses a new challenge. Such a long-dis- tance race offers completely different strategic options. For us drivers, it’ll be exhaust- ing, as the track characteristics offer very few chances to catch your breath in the cockpit. Moreover, the asphalt puts enormous stresses on the tyres. We’re well pre- pared for Bahrain with the new 911 RSR and we want to retain Porsche’s champion- ship lead as we head into the second half of the season.” Gianmaria Bruni (Porsche 911 RSR #91): “Personally, I have very positive memories of Bahrain. In the past, the race in Sakhir was often the final round of the WEC season. In 2013 and 2014, I claimed the championship title there. The circuit seems to bring me luck. Now I’m contesting the race for the first time with the Porsche 911 RSR. I’m feeling confident that we will continue this season’s strong performance with another top result. To catch a few rays of sun before the Christmas break and collect as many points as possible – that’s the goal.” Kévin Estre (Porsche 911 RSR #92): “Apart from the high tyre wear, the changes in temperature during the race make it difficult to find the ideal setup. We head off into the race in sunshine and high temperatures, later it cools down considerably. It’s im- portant to be strong under all conditions. So far, things have gone well for us with two podium finishes at Silverstone and Fuji as well as our Shanghai victory. We hope to further extend our lead in the overall rankings at the end of the year.” Dr. Ing. h.c. F. Porsche Aktiengesellschaft 4 of 6 Communications, Sustainability and Politics Porscheplatz 1 Motorsport Communications 70435 Stuttgart Oliver Hilger Phone +49 (0)711 911 – 26509 [email protected] Press release December 9, 2019 Michael Christensen (Porsche 911 RSR #92): “After our win in Shanghai, we’re trav- elling to Bahrain as the championship leaders. The mood could hardly be better. We’ll again go all-out at the last race of the year, because we would like to carry this good mood into the Christmas break and the second half of the season. Another success would make the holiday season with friends and family so much better. Regardless of the Bahrain result, my 2019 year was simply fantastic.” Matteo Cairoli (Porsche 911 RSR #56): “I know Bahrain from the 2017 season when I contested my first race there. It’s not the most beautiful circuit in the world, but the layout has turned out really well compared to other modern courses.

  • Bahrain Race
Press Release November 15, 2014 No. M 215/14 Sports Car World Endurance Championship WEC, round 7 in Sakhir/Bahrain - Race GT Best Porsche 911 RSR narrowly misses podium placing Stuttgart. Despite an inspired charge through the field on the Bahrain International Circuit it was not enough for the Porsche 911 RSR to secure a podium spot for the first time in this year’s sports car World Endurance Championship, two weeks after a brilliant double victory in Shanghai. In the number 91 Porsche Team Manthey 911 RSR, Porsche works drivers Jörg Bergmeister (Germany) and Richard Lietz (Austria) scored fourth place in the highly competitive GTE-Pro class at the penultimate round of the season in the Kingdom of Bahrain at the Persian Gulf. Their factory pilot col- leagues and Shanghai winners Frédéric Makowiecki and Patrick Pilet from France saw the flag in fifth at the wheel of the number 92 vehicle. It was already clear in qualifying that the Porsche 911 RSR would face a difficult race in the hot and humid weather conditions on the 5.407 kilometre Grand Prix circuit outside the capital of Manama. For this reason, the Porsche Manthey squad decided to use a different strategy than the opposition. During the early first safety car phase, the two works vehicles from Weissach were called into the pits for servicing, while the competition stayed out on the track. At first this strategy looked as if it might work: After the first hour of racing, Richard Lietz was running at the head of the GT field with Frédéric Makowiecki close behind on second place.

  • Porsche and Michelin Clinch the Season's FIA WEC Drivers' Crown
MEDIA INFORMATION November 21, 2015 2015 FIA World Endurance Championship (WEC) 6 Hours of Bahrain Porsche and Michelin clinch the season’s FIA WEC Drivers’ crown and LM GTE Cups in Bahrain to add to their 2015 Manufacturers’ title The 2015 FIA World Endurance Championship (WEC) concluded with Michelin’s partner Porsche claiming the top prizes in both the LM P1 and LM GTE Pro classes. Following its return to world class endurance racing in 2014, the Stuttgart brand emerged as the discipline’s team to beat this season despite year-long pressure from fellow Michelin runners Audi (in LM P1) and Ferrari (in LM GTE Pro). By providing tyres developed to meet the specific needs of its different manufacturer teams in this championship which permits open competition between tyre firms, Michelin enabled all of its partners and drivers to fight at the sharp end in the course of the 2015 season. “I would like to congratulate Porsche on its different titles and I am proud of the role Michelin played in its success,” said Michelin Motorsport Director Pascal Couasnon. “We work closely with all of our partners and we were at their side throughout this year’s FIA WEC which was of an extremely high level in both sporting and technological terms. It’s important to remember that this year’s cars marked a big step forward, especially the LM P1 prototypes which boasted power outputs and aerodynamic downforce of an unprecedented level.” The performance, durability and versatility of Michelin’s 2015 range of endurance racing tyres were illustrated by the high grip they delivered in cold weather at Silverstone and Spa, the quadruple-plus stints they permitted in LM P1 at Le Mans, their consistency and also their ability to double stint at the season’s most exacting circuits in high temperatures.

  • The 2014 6 Hours of Bahrain: Tyre Strategies and World Titles
MEDIA INFORMATION November 2014 2014 FIA World Endurance Championship (WEC) 6 Hours of Bahrain The 2014 6 Hours of Bahrain: tyre strategies and world titles The 2014 6 Hours of Bahrain turned out to be an emotional event where Michelin tyres played a fundament role in the final outcome. The result settled a number of Drivers’ titles, with Toyota Racing’s Antony DAVIDSON and Sébastien BUEMI securing the top prize in LM P1, while the LM GTE Pro crown was sealed by AF Corse/Ferrari racers Gianmaria BRUNI and Toni VILANDER. Tyre strategy key in qualifying Qualifying practice for the 2014 6 Hours of Bahrain produced a contest in which tyre strategy helped Porsche Team to snatch pole position from Toyota Racing by mere tenths of a second. The German squad chose MICHELIN’s ‘soft high temperature’ compound, while Audi Sport Team Joest – which was represented by a single R18 e-tron quattro in qualifying – and Toyota Racing both opted for the French firm’s ‘medium high temperature’ alternative. The fastest lap was eventually posted by the N°14 Porsche 919 Hybrid in the hands of DUMAS/JANI who recorded a best time of 1m41.897s round the 5.412km Sakhir International Circuit, and an average lap of 1m43.145s. The N°8 Toyota TS040 Hybrid (DAVIDSON/BUEMI) was second fastest (+0.265s), followed by the N°20 Porsche 919 Hybrid (BERNHARD/HARTLEY, +1.046s). While Porsche’s choice proved judicious for qualifying, the question was whether it would be suitable for the start of the 6 Hours of Bahrain which took place with track temperatures standing at around 40°C, since the tyres used for qualifying had to be fitted for the first stint of the race? Romain DUMAS wasn’t sure… “I’ve been nominated to start the race in the N°14 Porsche and I think I will put on a good show for the spectators on soft compound tyres.

The sixth round of the 2012 FIA World Endurance Championship clash was the first visit of endurance racing prototypes to Sakhir which provided the backdrop to a gruelling contest for the drivers, machines and MICHELIN tyres because of searing heat and the presence of sand on the track which added to the challenge. The LM P1 class saw the N°1 AUDI R18 e-tron Quattro of A. LOTTERER / B. TRELUYER / M. FASSLER win the 2012 6 Hours of Bahrain ahead of the German team’s N°2 sister car (T. KRISTENSEN / A. McNISH). • Le Mans 24 Hours: the N°36 Alpine Breaks Cover…
PRESS RELEASE 22032013 LE MANS 24 HOURS: THE N°36 ALPINE BREAKS COVER… Following the recent announcement (on March 8) of its entry for both the 2013 Le Mans 24 Hours and this year’s European Le Mans Series (ELMS), SignatechAlpine today presented the endurance racing prototype that will defend Alpine’s colours this season at L’Atelier Renault in Paris, France. Alpine’s return to endurance racing after an absence of 35 years plays a part in the brand’s reemergence ahead of the launch of the first car to be designed by Société des Automobiles AlpineCaterham, planned for 2016. Nelson Panciatici and Pierre Ragues, the two drivers who will share the car at every round of the ELMS, will be joined for the Le Mans 24 Hours by Tristan Gommendy. The N°36 Alpine will make its first track appearance at the official ELMS test days at Paul Ricard, France, on March 2627. It was a little less than 35 years ago that the 1978 Le Mans 24 Hourswinning AlpineRenault A442B paraded down the ChampsElysées in front of a cheering crowd who turned out to show their appreciation for the car’s success in the hands of JeanPierre Jaussaud and Didier Pironi. Today, the Parisian public and visitors to the French capital have another chance to discover the A442B, since it is one of the centrepieces of the ‘No Limit!’ exhibition which is currently running at L’Atelier Renault (until April 7). The Champs Elysees premises consequently provided the ideal backdrop for the revelation of the new Alpine prototype which is poised to compete in this year’s endurance racing season.
