2 The PVDA Newsletter The Did you know that as a President's USDF group member... Window

Hi Everyone! Welcome to the first newslet- By Claire Lacey ter of 2017! Wishing everyone a president@ happy, healthy, prosperous, and pvda.org successful year. Following our Annual General Meeting I have been elected President for a second term. I should like to thank members of our 2015/16 Board of Directors, Committee Chairs, Committee Members and everyone who volunteered in any way that helped us have such a good year. Nothing is possible without the efforts of many people in this organization and I am very thank- ful to share what we do with such great people. Please, join this effort, this year and help us and dressage in Maryland thrive. There is something for everyone when it comes to finding what you can do, that works for you. Contact a committee chair in an area that interests you and see what is available or sign up online. With this bumper color issue we wrap up 2016 with the Charlotte Jorst clinic and the Annual Awards Dinner and we look forward to what opportunities the New Year will bring us and our equine partners. The Jorst clinic was a fabulous event and heavily subsidized by PVDA to bring a fresh perspective and educational opportunity to members. It was such a shame not to see more people taking advantage of that amazing opportu- nity. I realize as much as anyone how time and resources can be limited and need to balance but time marches on. When you look back at 2016 what were the things you did that helped your knowledge, under- standing or skills? As I have said before Riding (and dressage) is a non-linear learning process. This means that every time you put yourself in the presence of it you have opportunity for a breakthrough! Take every chance you can to help you grow in 2017. Explore the opportunities. Life is short…. You write your history!

Lauren's favorite horse in the clinic was Annmari Ingersoll's Bart, who was the old man of the group. He and Annmari are riding at 4th level, and Lauren gave them some valuable exercises and training tips to help Annmari use his energy wisely to improve his movements before he tired. We all learned how important it is to ride the older horses smartly in order to preserve them while letting them take us closer to our dressage goals. And by the end of the lesson, Bart still had enough energy to give Lauren lots of kisses! We all had a wonderful surprise from Christina Mulqueen, who brought her lovely Hanoverian mare Lauren Sprieser, Christina Mulqueen, and Karen Siebert.

New Board Member Bio Cheryl Resch served as a horse show mom for many years and took up riding while supporting her two daughters, then started riding more seriously five years ago when her kids flew the nest. She learned to ride and show on her daughters' retired mounts. She took up dressage when she got to ride on LA Albert, her older daughter's retired upper level eventer. LA Albert is a 20 year old OTTB. While the picture is not a dressage picture, it is her favorite picture of them together. Cheryl joined the board to lend a helping hand organizing schooling shows. Cheryl has years of experience managing shows and has done all manner of volunteering for the United States Pony Club.

We had an outstanding late fall day at PGEC for the 32nd Annual Chapter Challenge. Many of our competitors were able to show under the careful eye of a licensed judge for the first time and those performing in the Quadrille, Pas de Deux and MFS received invaluable feedback from the Chair of the USDF MFS committee! Many thanks to our volunteers - we could not have done it without you. Special thanks to Linda Speer who did such a marvelous job as always with the Awards Ceremony and to Hailey Kate Peret who worked hard to get pictures of all of the winners. The stall decorating contest was a hit as usual, with first place going to St Mary's Chapter with their outstanding "Pony under the Christmas Tree" theme. Bayside shown with their "Triple Crown" Racing colors and So MD offered some levity to the 2016 Presidential Election with their "Ponies for President" theme.
