Aoc Muscadet-Sèvre- Et-Maine Sur Lie Discovery AOC range AOC MUSCADET-SÈVRE- ET-MAINE SUR LIE Maison Castel demonstrates its commitment to French traditions and savoir-faire with this AOC Muscadet-Sèvre- et-Maine sur lie, a key appellation of the Loire valley. Elegant and refined with freshness and acidity, this wine is a perfect combination of typicity and modernity.” Cédric Jenin - Winemaker PRECISE QUALITY MANAGEMENT AOC Muscadet-Sèvre-et-Maine owes its name to two rivers, the Sèvre and the Maine, which run through the Nantes countryside and some of its best wine growing areas. The words "sur lie" on this 100% Melon de Bourgogne mean that the wine spends the winter on its lees in tank, which gives it fullness and an attractive aromatic richness. This top-quality wine from Maison Castel is the result of working with a Terra Vitis-certified partner, and a carefully managed vinification process. MAISON CASTEL KNOW-HOW The Maison Castel winemaker and his team follow the ripening process very closely to optimise the aromatic expression and minerality of the grape variety. The teams check the must following strict criteria before it arrives at the Maison Castel winery. Different terroirs are vinified in different ways to get more precise aromatic results, and the aromatic expression is enhanced via several days of Residual sugars 2g/L cold soaking, settling (carried out according to the desired result), the choice of yeast, and alcoholic fermentation at controlled temperature. Finally, a six-month ageing period with lees stirring (as for premium white wines) gives this wine roundness and complexity. Enjoy as an aperitif or with seafood. Pale yellow robe The perfect match would be moules marinières Mineral notes of white-flesh fruit and citrus Serve at 12 - 14°C Mouth-filling and complex, combining Can be aged for up to 2 years freshness with roundness More information : www.maisoncastel.wine/en/ VEGAN-FRIENDLY.

  • FAMILLE LIEUBEAU Muscadet Cru Goulaine the ESTATE Granite Rock Was Used for Centuries to Build the Massive Fortresses That Dot the Landscape of Muscadet
FAMILLE LIEUBEAU Muscadet Cru Goulaine THE ESTATE Granite rock was used for centuries to build the massive fortresses that dot the landscape of Muscadet. Its density and structure were rarely breached by arrow, cannonball, or the good ‘ole medieval siege. Because of its density and the fact that it is everywhere in Muscadet, its unclear why anyone would think that this was the place to plant hectares and hectares of vines. The Romans might have gotten a few things wrong in France, but they did get something right: they planted vines on this lunar rock of a landscape. Today, this area is called Muscadet and is home to over 8,000 hectares of Melon de Bourgogne. Famille Lieubeau farms over 40 hectares of vines and produces both Muscadet Sèvre et Maine and Vin de Pays from grapes such as Chardonnay and Sauvignon Blanc. Regardless of the varietal, the vines are planted on rock, and in most cases, sheer cliffs of rock through which the roots have to bury for meters for any hydric source. The vines, and the wines, are fed by water that is awash in wet rock. It’s not a big shock that the wines smell and taste more like rock and minerals than fruit or flowers. Combine this with the cold Atlantic breezes and you’ve got an amazing cool climate, high cut, precise bottle of white wine. The Lieubeau family takes great care to vinify the wines according to exposition, density of granite, and harvest date. Farming for their Folle Blanche, Chardonnay and Sauvignon is certified by Terra Vitis and all of their Melon is now certified organic by Agriculture Biologique.

Wine guides for the ultra curious, Approach Guides take an in-depth look at a wine region’s grapes, appellations and vintages to help you discover wines that meet your preferences. The Loire Valley — featuring a compelling line-up of distinctive grape varieties, high quality winemaking and large production volumes — is home to some of France’s most impressive wines. Nevertheless, it remains largely overlooked by the international wine drinking public. This makes the region a treasure trove of exceptional values, just waiting to be discovered. What’s in this guidebook • Grape varieties. We describe the Loire’s primary red and white grape varieties and where they reach their highest expressions. • Vintage ratings. We offer a straightforward vintage ratings table, which affords high-level insight into the best and most challenging years for wine production. • A Loire Valley wine label. We explain what to look for on a Loire Valley wine label and what it tells you about what’s in the bottle. • Map and appellation profiles. Leveraging our map of the region, we provide detailed pro- files of appellations from all five of the Loire’s sub-regions (running from west to east): Pays Nantais, Anjou, Saumur, Touraine and Central Vineyards. For each appellation, we describe the prevailing terroir, the types of wine produced and what makes them distinctive. • A distinctive approach. This guidebook’s approach is unique: rather than tell you what specific bottle of wine to order by providing individual bottle reviews, it gives the information you need to make informed wine choices on any list.

  • Exploring an Oregon Biodynamic Treasure: the Johan
Exploring an Oregon Biodynamic Treasure: The Johan Vineyard 6 bottles, 4 grapes, 3 wineries, 1 Special Site $150 (36 available) The Johan vineyard was planted in 2005, and from the very beginning its 85 acres under vine have been Biodynamically farmed with the goal of creating and nurturing an ecosystem above, below, and in between the vines. It is a very special place for Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, and a host of other grape varieties planted there. It is located in Oregon’s newest sub AVA (American viticultural Area) of the Willamette Valley, The Van Duzer Corridor AVA. There are many factors that differentiate this area from those surrounding it. The primary factor is that the vineyards are directly affected by powerful and cooling winds from the Pacific Ocean that are funneled through a break in the mountains of the Coast Range. This cooling influence delays ripening and helps balance alcohol levels. Simultaneously the strong winds cause the grapes to develop thicker protective skins which impart flavor and structure into the finished wines. The unique soils at Johan help to balance the wines. There is a large amount of calcareous material found throughout the vineyard which helps keep acidities high and the wines bright. We wanted to explore this unique site through the different lenses of a few producers who make wine from it. Hopefully you will geek out as much as we did! Pét-Nat Rosé (of Pinot Noir) Johan Vineyards, 2019 The Johan team specifically farms one block of their vineyard to make this sparkling wine, they value it for its fruitiness and high acidity levels.

  • Muscadet Sèvre Et Maine Sur Lie
Muscadet Sèvre et Maine Sur Lie Region AOP Muscadet Sèvre et Maine Sur Lie Winemaker notes The Domaine is located in the lieu dit of La Pétière in Saint-Fiacre with the word “Combe” referring to a topographical feature, somewhat like a valley, where the Domaine is situated. The vineyards are situated on the banks of the Sèvre river, with southern exposure, the only such lieu dit in the Saint-Fiacre village with this favorable aspect. The 12 hecatres of vineyards of Domaine de la Combe represent a monopole of their unique La Pétière terroir. Pierre-Henri Gadais, fifth generation of the Gadais family, has taken the reigns as winemaker for the family’s new domaine. Viticultural Notes Vines are planted at a density of 7700 vines per hectares. Grapes are hand-harvested. Vintage Notes 2018 Vintage: This vintage was one for the record books. According to Pierre-Henri's grandfather, you could not script a more perfect vintage that 2018. The quality was perfect till the end, with no rot at all, perfect maturity, with a good level of acidity. Vintages like this, where Mother Nature cooperates, makes a winemaker's job easy. The vineyard and the weather do all the heavy lifting. The 2018 should have great cellaring capabilities for those that enjoy Muscadet with a bit more tertiary development. 2017 Vintage: As was the case in 2016, the spring started off warmed than usual which left the vines vulnerable to frost in May. The estate suffered approximately 40% loss in crop due to the frost. The rest vines that were not impacted by frost experienced a slow, gradual growing season that helped to maintain a good level of acidity in the finished wines.
