This report highlights the State Council of Parks and the Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation’s achievements during 2015, and sets forth recommendations for the coming year. First, we continue to be enormously inspired by your unprecedented capital investment in New York state parks, which has resulted in a renaissance of the system. With a total of $521 million invested in capital projects over the last four years, we are restoring public amenities, fixing failing infrastructure, creating new trails, and bringing our state’s flagship parks back to life. New Yorkers and tourists are rediscovering state parks, and the agency continues to plan for the future based on your commitment to provide a total of $900 million in capital funds as part of the NY Parks 2020 initiative announced in your 2015 Opportunity Agenda.

A Selection of Biodiversity Conservation Agencies & Programs A variety of state agencies and programs, in addition to the NY Natural Heritage Program, partner with OPRHP on biodiversity conservation and planning. This appendix also describes a variety of statewide and regional biodiversity conservation efforts that complement OPRHP’s work. NYS BIODIVERSITY RESEARCH INSTITUTE The New York State Biodiversity Research Institute is a state-chartered organization based in the New York State Museum who promotes the understanding and conservation of New York’s biological diversity. They administer a broad range of research, education, and information transfer programs, and oversee a competitive grants program for projects that further biodiversity stewardship and research. In 1996, the Biodiversity Research Institute approved funding for the Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation to undertake an ambitious inventory of its lands for rare species, rare natural communities, and the state’s best examples of common communities. The majority of inventory in state parks occurred over a five-year period, beginning in 1998 and concluding in the spring of 2003. Funding was also approved for a sixth year, which included all newly acquired state parks and several state parks that required additional attention beyond the initial inventory. Telephone: (518) 486-4845 Website: www.nysm.nysed.gov/bri/ NYS DEPARTMENT OF ENVIRONMENTAL CONSERVATION The Department of Environmental Conservation’s (DEC) biodiversity conservation efforts are handled by a variety of offices with the department. Of particular note for this project are the NY Natural Heritage Program, Endangered Species Unit, and Nongame Unit (all of which are in the Division of Fish, Wildlife, & Marine Resources), and the Division of Lands & Forests.

  • Esd Announces Restoration Project at Erie County Cultural and Arts Destination
Empire State Development News Press Office (716) 856-8111 www.nylovesbiz.com FOR RELEASE: IMMEDIATE 9/22/2008 ESD ANNOUNCES RESTORATION PROJECT AT ERIE COUNTY CULTURAL AND ARTS DESTINATION Roycroft Campus Corporation to Reconstruct Former Power House Empire State Development today announced plans for the Roycroft Campus Corporation (RCC) to reconstruct and restore the historic Power House at the East Aurora-based Arts and Crafts cultural campus. The Roycroft complex will retain 96 full-time positions and RCC pledges to create an additional 12 full-time jobs in Western New York. The Campus was home to a significant cultural movement that influenced the nation and became a destination for master craftsmen and a gathering place of notable artists, authors, philosophers and powerbrokers. “The historic Roycroft campus brings tourists and additional revenue to the region,” said Governor David A. Paterson. “The campus housed a cultural movement that inspired the nation and continues to influence craftsmanship and philosophy today. As tourism is one of New York State’s most important industries, I am pleased to support the continued restoration and programming at this designated National Historic Landmark.” Empire State Development will provide a $1.5 million capital grant toward the reconstruction and restoration project. For this undertaking to move forward, RCC must match the grant by raising $1.5 million, or half of the estimated $3 million cost. The matching contribution may be obtained through any potential sources of philanthropic, public and private funds. The RCC has already raised $500,000 towards the matching contribution. The RCC recently took ownership of the former Power House with the assistance of The Margaret L.
