  • Trust Hodgson to Give a Little Bit More
Trust Hodgson to Give a Little Bit more Roger Hodgson Photograph by : CALGARY HERALD, CANWEST NEWS SERVICE Eric Volmers, Calgary Herald; CanWest News Service Published: Wednesday, July 19, 2006 Roger Hodgson seems an odd choice to take on the role of a hardened, reality-TV taskmaster overseeing a gaggle of young Canadian Idol hopefuls. But the soft-spoken and willowy singer-songwriter, who is best known for applying his otherworldly falsetto to a string of progressive pop hits in the 1970s and '80s with his band Supertramp, seems genuinely excited that producers have asked him to be an official mentor on the show. Come August, the former Supertramp frontman, who was 19 when the band's first album was released in 1969, will be shepherding Idol's surviving singers through some of Supertramp's most beloved songs. And the near legendary songwriter admits he is curious to see how the young singers negotiate some of the trickier vocal gymnastics required to master tunes like Dreamer and Take the Long Way Home. "It will be interesting to find contestants who can sing in my register," Hodgson said. "It will be something different for me." Hodgson's appearance on Canadian Idol is another reminder of the long-term relationship the British-born musician has had with this country. Although Hodgson has lived in California since the 1980s, he says Canada's long-standing devotion to Supertramp has always made it seem like a second home. At one time, it was estimated that one in every 20 Canadians owned the band's Breakfast in America and Crime of the Century albums.

  • Hollywood Couple Megan Fox and Brian Austin Green Separate
Hollywood Couple Megan Fox and Brian Austin Green Separate By Mackenzie Scibetta It’s official! Another celebrity divorce is soon to be in the books, as Megan Fox and Brian Austin Green have called it quits. According to UsMagazine.com, the couple is breaking up after an impressively long Hollywood romance of 11 years together. They were married for five years and have two children together, Noah and Bodhi. Fox and Green spoke numerous times about the highs and lows of parenthood, even once saying that the most important part of a relationship and love life is to “respect each other as parents”. Ironically, Fox told reporters in August 2014, “I don’t want to be boastful and say that we would never divorce, but I can’t imagine a scenario we couldn’t work through…” This Hollywood couple joined the ranks of celebrity break-ups this summer. What are some ways to balance parenting with your relationship? Cupid’s Advice: Even Hollywood couples aren’t immune to the struggles of parenthood, so when you feel overwhelmed, it’s helpful to remember you’re not alone. Everyone wants to have it all, so Cupid has some tips to help you live a more harmonious life: 1. Family activities: An easy fix to balancing time between your lover and children is to combine the time you have with each and host a family outing. • Carl Verheyen Interview with Kevin
Carl Verheyen interview with Kevin In June this year I was in Los Angeles and caught up with the amazing guitarist Carl Verheyen (pronounced Ver-high-in) at Village Recorders in Santa Monica where he was working on and producing an album for Felipe Tarantino. Carl is the number one session guitarist in Los Angeles, a member of the band Supertramp, and runs his own band, the Carl Verheyen Band. Apart from having a heavy schedule of studio bookings, stadium and club tours, Carl is still a student of guitar, believes in learning something new every day, plays a wide variety of styles, is a great arranger and producer, and a great guy. With the amount of talent that Carl possesses there is always something he can pass on to us guitar players here in New Zealand. Kevin – Carl, you’ve got some amazing chops (technique), how do you arrange your time to keep them in good shape? Carl – Well I try to play every day and I really do play every day, I don’t feel good about taking a day off, I just want to push some strings around somewhere and somehow. A lot of times practising is with the next performance in mind, so if my trio is going to play somewhere, I will work on that. If I’ve got to keep work coming, it’s a slightly different step if I’m going to do an acoustic guitar night, and do solo acoustic concerts, then that takes two weeks of practise out in front, but, a lot of it is, so that I won’t suck the next time I play.
