OWC Laptop Screen Protectors! Ever noticed those annoying little marks on your LCD screen? Those marks are formed when the lid is closed and the keys on your laptop make contact with the delicate LCD screen. Laptop manufacturers have pushed the tolerances in portables to the limit to make the designs more compact and lightweight. Ever since 1998 with the release of the Apple PowerBook G3 models, it has been very common to find marks where the LCD makes contact with the keyboard. These marks are from the natural oils that are passed onto the keyboard during normal use, and in some cases, the keys actually rubbing on the screen directly. This, combined with normal dust and elements a portable computer is exposed to, leads to the residual marks left on the screen. For the most part these are able to be removed with careful cleaning and a lot of effort. But not always! Being users of various Apple PowerBook models, this problem has troubled us for years. Instead of just accepting the defect and putting up with it, we have created the solution to avoid it from happening! OWC Laptop Screen Protectors! Available in 6 sizes, these OWC originals are made from top quality, glove soft, 1 oz. (1-2mm thick) cowhide leather that makes for an elegant solution to a troublesome problem. Proper use of an OWC LSP will keep your Laptop screen mark-free for a lifetime! This is a natural product and it is normal for some slight marks or blemishes to be present. Like any natural leather product, this is proof that it is genuine leather. Proper Usage OWC LSP products are designed to fit directly over the keyboard centering it over the keyboard, logo side up. Do not place the LSP too close to either edge, or too high up on the PowerBook’s chassis to prevent it from binding when you close the lid. Cleaning & Care All OWC Laptop Screen Protectors include a free single use Klear Screen Apple Polish cleaning kit. Use this two stage cleaning kit to clear your screen of any pre-existing marks or blemishes and get a fresh start using your new OWC LSP. This kit can be used to clean the LCD screen as well as your trackpad and keyboard. If your LSP becomes dirty, clean it with water, do not use any chemicals on it. If it is picking up debris from your desk or laptop, you can put it in a clothes dryer on LOW heat with an anti-static cling dryer sheet and tumble it clean. Wipe the surface with water once this has been done to keep any residue from your LCD screen. Product Specs: OWCLSP: 5” x 11.5” - Universal OWCLSPIBOOK: 4” x 11” - iBook G3/G4 12“ or PowerBook G4 12” These two products are designed to fit directly over the keyboard on your laptop, protecting the screen from any marks or abrasions. Perfect to use with the above listed models, the universal OWCLSP will work with any laptop with a full size keyboard, and the OWCLSPIBOOK will work with any laptop regardless of keyboard size. Measure your keyboard to determine which model is an exact fit for your needs. • Pismo) a New Lease on Life
This Old Mac Giving a PowerBook G3 (Pismo) a new lease on life. by P.A.M. Borys, Step by Step Training I love Apple products but I can’t turn around and buy the newest toy half as often as I’d like. My principal machine is a dual gig QuickSilver with a SuperDrive that should serve my needs for a while. My portable machine is a G3 PowerBook better known as a Pismo. I love this machine. I like the rounded corners, its rugged case, 14.1” screen size, AirPort, and the fact that it has USB, FireWire, S-video, and VGA ports. With a DVD/CD-ROM drive, this machine also functions as the family portable DVD player and repository of digital pictures while on the road. The machine accepted all versions of OS X without a whimper although the need for a larger hard drive soon became paramount. At the San Francisco MacWorld Expo, I purchased a 60-gig drive from OtherWorld Computing (otherworldcomputing.com). This took care of storage issues and I have OS 9 and OS X on separate partitions. This allows me to start up recalcitrant client machines in FireWire target mode or copy files from older machines with a crossover cable. Although it ran 10.3 at a respectable speed, it was becoming noticeably slower. Should I update to a new PowerBook? The iBooks were more in my budget but didn’t fit all my needs. Once again, OWC came to the rescue with a G4 upgrade for the Pismo. When my husband and I first tried the upgrade, my PowerBook failed to boot and we erroneously faulted the new processor.
