17 CAMPBELL FOOTBALL GAME NOTES • 2011 • MARIST criteria Up Next: The Camels return home for the annual Home- 1) Team wins a minimum of eight Division I games during coming Game where the team will take on San Diego at 1 the season; p.m. at Barker-Lane Stadium. 2) Team wins a minimum of two non-conference games against Division I teams representing a conference that earned one of the 10 automatic qualifying bids (AQ) 3) Team finishes the season ranked 20th or higher in an average of the last regular season media, coaches and/or computer poll (which will be determined by the committee on an annual basis).

This criteria is not intended to be a permanent solution for interested and eligible conference without an AQ bid (Pio- neer League would be one)...rather the criteria should only be used to bridge the time between such conferences ap- plying for an AQ and the time needed to formally approve the fund necessary bracket expansion - not more than two years...the committee believes it is important to continue to adhere to Cabinet policy limiting the number of AQ confer- ences to not more than 50% of the championship bracket.

Division I FCS, Please: Although some people may accidentally still refer to it as I-AA, the term the best represents the level of Division I football in which the Pioneer Football League competes has been retired... beginning with the 2006 National Championship game, the term Football Championship Subdivision (or FCS) is to be used....FCS is the only Division I football rank to host an NCAA sponsored national championship (one of 88 championships the NCAA sponsors)...the division formerly know as I-A was changed to Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS) and those teams compete for the Bowl Champion- ship Series (BCS) national championship...teams who play at the FCS level can offer a maximum of 63 scholarships (FBS team can offer 85) and complete in a 20-team playoff at the end of the season to determine the national champion.

PFL Adds A Pair Of Schools: Over the summer the Pion- ner Football League expanded by two schools and invited Mercer and Stetson to join the league in 2013...both schools are starting football program and the 2013 season will be the first year of competition...the addition of the two school will bring the league’s membership up to 12..both had football earlier this century...Mercer last played football in 1941, while Stetson last took the field in 1956...With the additional growth, the league foresees increased scheduling opportunities for its members which should further limit the impact of travel-related costs...to that end, league members recently agreed to implement an eight-game conference schedule beginning with the 2013 campaign, but have not determined the schedule’s structure at this time.
