Digital services need to be built, delivered and operated by people with technical skills, briefly this involves two diverse careers: Development Development ICT Apprentices will gain fundamental programming skills and develop capability to apply these to specific languages and platforms. Apprentices will develop knowledge and understanding of the software development lifecycle and ultimately contribute to the design, development and delivery of robust, cost effective and secure business solutions for the public. Infrastructure Networking/ Infrastructure ICT Apprentices will learn on the job how to complete incident management activities, such as installing and upgrading network software, setting up or replacing hardware such as switches and routers, and diagnosing and solving technical faults. Developing knowledge and understanding of the system administration and monitoring tools, giving users technical advice and guidance and ultimately contribute to the support of the underlying ICT Network infrastructure and ICT services. 4 Quotes from ICT Apprentices Who better to tell you about a job than the people already working there! “I was always interested in the IT sector but never really knew how I would go about even starting a career within this sector, then my mum pointed out the civil service apprenticeship scheme and I decided to go for it. With the ongoing training and support that I have been given, I now have the skills and knowledge required to solve multiple technical issues. The apprenticeship allows me to study one day per week in a classroom environment with other apprentices whilst also attending work four days a week in order to gain on the job experience and skills that are much needed within the IT sector. Our users also test our applications before they go “Live” to gage feedback and find any bugs which may have been missed and they are asked to try to “break” the application, this way an issues can be resolved before it is released.
