Services continue to evolve, with development of applications to meet growing consumer demand, while continuing to deliver effective, reliable, and cost- effective communication services to traditional enterprise customers. This Directory highlights the systems and service providers rolling out these vital solutions, contributing to the core strengths of the product, and transforming the way people and organizations communicate worldwide. As the industry begins to launch the next generation of services delivered through High Throughput Satellites (HTS), a change in the economies of satellite services will occur, with more data capacity available at much lower cost while providing broadband for a vast range of applications for stakeholders. HTS will also add new dynamics in the satellite broadband communication solution ecosystem by increasing service innovation, expanding satellite backhaul delivery, and assuring global network access, serving corporations, governments, militaries, non-governmental organizations, institutions, small and medium businesses, and individuals. Whether they are broadband or narrowband, fixed or mobile – satellite is not just a means of delivering services, it is the means towards innovation, access and security. Start-ups are expected to increase the number of satellites in orbit and bring about US$7.4 billion worth of investment activity in the next five years alone; and • International Organizations – Prominent international organizations, such as the United Nations World Food Programme and Office for Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs, the International Civil Aviation Organization, the World Meteorological Organization, the World Broadcasting Unions, NetHope, the International Maritime Organization and others highlighted the benefits of broadband communications via satellite, calling for protection of satellite spectrum during the recent ITU World Radiocommunications Conference (WRC), where it was decided that the contribution being made to the com- munications community by the satellite industry was extremely valuable, and that a c - cess to the frequencies should be preserved for long-term delivery of innovative satellite services alongside wireless and other complementary technologies. As in any industry, challenges are expected. But the satellite communications sector through GVF and a host of allied organizations, is meeting those challenges head-on. Included in this edition of the GVF Member & Satellite Resource Guide are examples of initiatives designed to help take satcom services to the next level. The global communications community is using the GVF as a valuable tool kit, a means of not only elevating their promotional profile, training their staff and customers, promoting best practices and quality products, advancing a ‘culture of security’, supporting global relief efforts and expanding access to key markets, but also assuring continuous availability of spectrum resources. Anyone who wants to learn more about what the satellite industry has to offer is invited to make direct contact with GVF Members, either through the listings in this 2016 Directory, or via the interactive online GVF Directory at www.gvf.org. As a complimentary service to the communications community, GVF also provides numerous resources to strengthen awareness of the benefits of satellite-based broadband solutions and facilitates end user contact with the global satellite communications industry. Whether your organization is a satellite service or system provider, a regulator or ministry, or an end user, we would be honoured to facilitate your participation in this dynamic industry. 2 GVF Directory & Satellite Resource Guide 2016 intro.pmd 2 19/02/2016, 10:01 Untitled-1 1 19/02/2016, 19:10 GVF Board of Directors Arunas Slekys is responsible for managing all of Hughes marketing communications and advocacy initiatives worldwide.
