Maj. Gen. Joe H. Engle, USAF (Ret.) Engle fl ew more than 185 different types of aircraft, logging nearly 15,000 fl ying hours. As an astronaut, he also accumulated 224 hours in space. He was the only person to have fl own two different winged space vehicles—the X-15 and the space shuttle —when he retired from active service in 1986, after which he served in the . Rep.
