The cross-country trek includes stops at the Los Angeles’ Hollywood Bowl (October 1st) and Brooklyn’s Barclays Center (October 23rd) before its finale at the Honda Center in Anaheim, CA, on November 16th (see attached itinerary). The band’s infectious energy has always made them a crowd favorite at music festivals around the world. Last month saw the band return to the main stage at the Coachella Music and Arts Festival with rave reviews from Billboard, USA Today, and Los Angeles Times. A 360/VR video shot during the band’s raucous set can be seen here. This summer, the band has stops at Lollapalooza in Chicago, Rock En Seine in Paris, the Reading and Leeds Festivals in the UK, and more. To herald the announcement of their fall touring plans, Grouplove have released an exclusive remix of their current single “Good Morning” by KXA. The original version of “Good Morning” - found on the band’s most recent full length album “BIG MESS” - is the follow-up to the Top 5 Alternative lead single “Welcome To Your Life,” and climbing the charts at Alternative Radio now. Its cinematic companion video features actress Elle Fanning, and can be seen at the band’s official YouTube channel. Last Friday, Grouplove released their “LITTLE MESS” EP. The 5 songs on the collection were written and recorded during the making of “BIG MESS.” Produced by the band’s own Ryan Rabin (under the Captain Cuts moniker) and Phil Ek (Fleet Foxes, Band of Horses, The Shins), the “LITTLE MESS” EP was meant to be an extension of “BIG MESS.” ******* Grouplove first came together in 2009 and were quickly hailed for their standout live LA based band Grouplove first came together in 2009 and were quickly hailed for their standout live performances, both as headliners and at such international festivals as Coachella, Bonnaroo, Lollapalooza, Outside Lands, Reading + Leeds Festivals, and Glastonbury. Now, with three acclaimed, studio albums and countless sold out shows around the world, the band has established themselves as one of music’s most exhilarating acts. The quintet’s most recent release, “BIG MESS” – produced by the band’s own Ryan Rabin, under the moniker Captain Cuts, and Phil Ek (Fleet Foxes, Band Of Horses, The Shins) - arrived last September, supported by a slate of national television performances of its lead single and Top 5 Alternative hit “Welcome To Your Life” on ABC’s “Jimmy Kimmel Live!,” NBC’s “TODAY,” and CBS’ “Late Show with Stephen Colbert” and “Late Late Show with James Corden.” Outlets ranging from Rolling Stone and Entertainment Weekly to Interview and NYLON heralded the band and their latest offering while fans packed their headlining “Big Mess World Tour.” Grouplove’s new single “Good Morning” is beginning its ascent at Alternative radio. “BIG MESS” follows 2013's "SPREADING RUMOURS," which was also met with a raft of praise from the likes of Rolling Stone, USA Today, Entertainment Weekly, Los Angeles Times, NYLON, and National Public Radio who called it "ludicrously easy to love." The collection - produced by Rabin - featured singles "Shark Attack" and the RIAA-certified Gold “Ways To Go.” In 2014, Grouplove contributed the original song "Let Me In" to "The Fault in Our Stars - Music From the Motion Picture," the musical companion to the blockbuster film based on The New York Times bestseller. That same year, the band was tapped to create the theme song to the Netflix Original Series "BoJack Horseman." Last year, vocalist/keyboardist Hannah Hooper collaborated with Volcom for a Lady Grouplove capsule collection of clothing inspired by her personal style and artwork. Grouplove’s debut full length "NEVER TRUST A HAPPY SONG" arrived in 2011, featuring a trio of breakout singles – the RIAA-certified Gold "Colours," "Itchin' On A Photograph," and the RIAA-certified Platinum hit "Tongue Tied" which spent 3 consecutive weeks at #1 on the Alternative radio chart. Grouplove is: Christian Zucconi (vocals, guitar), Hannah Hooper (vocals, keys), Andrew Wessen (guitar, vocals), Ryan Rabin (drums), and Daniel Gleason (bass). "We never planned to be a band. We were friends first and we just love being together," says lead singer Christian Zucconi. "Grouplove grew organically from that love." Their debut album, with the tongue-in-cheek title Never Trust a Happy Song, is quickly spreading the love, too. Their sweet and savory mix of jangly, upbeat melodies, Zucconi's anguished howl and keyboardist Hannah Hooper's coquettish backup vocals have been making the rounds in indie rock circles and on the charts. Joyful, noisy single Colours peaked at No. 12 on USA TODAY's alternative chart. Another track, Tongue Tied, lassoed the new iPod Touch commercial, which ran during the Grammy nominations concert and has continued since Thanksgiving. Add Grouplove's lock as the opening band for Young the Giant's tour in March and April, and it's no wonder they're so lovey-dovey. Happy accidents: Zucconi wasn't always this upbeat. "Before Grouplove, I was in other bands, but the timing never seemed right," he says. "I'd wake up every day depressed, I spent so many years miserable doing music. But it's wonderful now how we overcame everything together. It's funny that Grouplove is such a happy band." The band members met each other in 2008 at an artist commune in Crete.

  • Grouplove Big Mess Turns out That a Big Mess Can Actually Be a Good
Grouplove Big Mess Turns out that a big mess can actually be a good thing. In the case of Grouplove’s third studio album, Big Mess refers not only to a lyric in the buoyant lead single “Welcome To Your Life,” but also to the situation in which they found themselves when they got off the road following 2013’s Spreading Rumours. For the first time since releasing their breakthrough 2011 debut, Never Trust A Happy Song, Grouplove were back in Los Angeles indefinitely, with a lot of catching up to do. “We got off tour and realized we had been completely neglecting normal life,” says singer and keyboard player Hannah Hooper. “We were out of touch with friends and family, our house looked like we were hoarders -- it was like an explosion of so much at once.” In the midst of it all, Hooper and Grouplove singer/guitarist Christian Zucconi, who have been a couple since the band’s inception, found out they were going to have a baby. Like the true pair of artists they are, Zucconi and Hooper viewed the chaos as an opportunity to be creative. “We felt so out of control. Instead of trying to deal with the mess, we just started writing,” Hooper explains. “We had so many songs come out of that, and Big Mess is a collection of our favorites.” The album’s opening track, “Welcome To Your Life,” was one of close to forty songs that began in that messy moment. Hooper recorded the hook -- “we’re back in business, you’re such a big mess, and I love you” -- on her laptop, but the rest of the tune took awhile to come into focus.

  • Producer, Engineer, Mixer Phil Ek, Producer of Artists
Rebekah Ratlif 9/12/2011 Demo Production Phil Ek: Producer, Engineer, Mixer Phil Ek, producer of artists such as The Shins, Modest Mouse, Fleet Foxes, and Band of Horses, prides himself on filling three roles of the music production process: producer, engineer, and mixer. It’s fair to say that he is successful in all three areas. In the nineties Ek moved to Seattle after graduating high school and started in the clubs of Seattle where he worked as an audio engineer. After working for a year and a half, he moved on to recording small demos for anyone that came to him. He would record three song demos on cassette so the artists could try to get gigs in clubs and venues. Ek then attended the Art Institute of Seattle to study recording. During this time he met John Endino, producer of Nirvana, and ended up assisting him in his studios. During his time with Endino and recording demos at Sub Pop records he met members of the band Built to Spill. Ek, creating a good relationship with the band, was asked to record their record “There’s Nothing Wrong with Love” which went on to reach #24 on Pitchfork’s Top 100 albums of the 1990s. Ever since recording that album, Ek has been unstoppable, recording several other Built to Spill records, two number one albums in the US, and two in the US top 40. The Role of the Producer The idea of what a producer actually does could be diferent for many people, depending on their perspective in or outside of the music industry.
