This direct journey into the City Centre departs every 10 minutes from the front of the terminal building. The 500 service incorporates stops in close proximity to several accommodation locations. These are the “black cabs” that you’ll see in and around the city. The standard journey price from the Airport to the City Centre should be £19.80. **For further information on Glasgow Taxis please visit: http://www.glasgowtaxis.co.uk/services_fare.php GLASGOW AIRPORT TAXIS Delegates can also take one of the Airport Taxis which are always located immediately outside the terminal building. Glasgow Airport Taxis can also be booked by calling +44 (0) 141 848 6363 The standard fare for these would be £25.00 to the City Centre **For further information on Glasgow Airport Taxis please visit: http://www.glasgowairportaxis.co.uk/glasgow-airport-taxi-c-62.html CITY CENTRE TO SECC Trains to the SECC Delegates can take the Low Level train from Glasgow Central Station to Exhibition Centre which is the station that services the SECC. This service is operated by First Scotrail. The service runs every 9 minutes from Glasgow Central Station and the journey will take 3 minutes. A single journey to the SECC will be £1.30 with a return fare £1.60 Tickets can be purchased in Central Station at the Ticket Desks or at the Automated Kiosks **For further information on the First Scotrail Network including rail timetables please visit: http://www.scotrail.co.uk/ AROUND THE CITY Strathclyde Partnership for Transport – SPT plan and deliver transport solutions across all modes of transport available in the city. SPT work in partnership with each transport provider and their site provides a wealth of information on each transport element together with ticket and journey guides. A helpful “one stop shop,” to familiarise yourself with the transport options available in the region. **For further information on SPT please visit: http://www.spt.co.uk/index.aspx BY SUBWAY The subway is a circular route of 15 stations covering the centre and west of Glasgow. The route operates an inner circle (travels counter clockwise) and outer circle (travels clockwise), a trip round the entire circle would take only 24 minutes! Monday-Saturday services operate from 6.30am and from 10am on Sunday. Close 11.30pm (Monday-Saturday) and 6.00pm - Sunday. Trains run every 6-8 minutes and all trains stop at all stations. As a guide we’ve noted the key options below, Edinburgh Airport to Edinburgh City Centre & Edinburgh City Centre to Glasgow City Centre: EDINBURGH INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT TO EDINBURGH CITY CENTRE COACH The Airlink 100 departs Edinburgh International Airport every 10 minutes with a journey time of 25 minutes to the centre of Edinburgh. The service departs from stance 19 which is located outside the UK arrivals hall and will travel into the heart of Edinburgh. The service includes a stop at Waverley Bridge where Waverley train station is located. A single journey is £3.50 and a return ticket would be £6.00. If you arrive at the airport in the “wee” small hours you can board the N22 bus which will also take the same route to the centre of Edinburgh. As a guide we’ve noted the key options below: BY RAIL Delegates can easily reach Glasgow City Centre from Prestwick Airport by taking the train directly from the airport. The train station is connected to the airport by a covered walkway from the terminal building. Trains depart every 30 minutes and the journey time to Glasgow Central Station is 45 minutes.     The Millennium Canal Project With funding from the Lottery and other sources, British Waterways Scotland ISSUE 18 has completed the SUMMER 2002 restoration of the Forth and ISSN 1462-8708 Clyde and Union Canals. This includes the spectacular Falkirk Wheel linking the Forth and Clyde Canal to the Union Canal extended for a mile further west from Falkirk and SPECIAL THEME passing in tunnel under the Glasgow Queen Street - Airports Consultation Edinburgh railway. The project is designed to encourage mainly leisure activities including walking and cycling as well as boating.     SUBMISSION FROM SCOTTISH ENTERPRISE Thank you for providing Scottish Enterprise (SE) with the opportunity to submit out comments on the above private bill. Please find below our Network response. The SE Network recognises that Glasgow Airport is a growth pole in the Scottish economy so we are keen to support measures which are likely to spread the economic benefits of the airport to a wider hinterland within Scotland. It is the firm view of the SE Network that a railway service between Glasgow Airport and Glasgow City Centre is a sensible policy to pursue. In partnership with the Scottish Executive, SE manages the aviation Route Development Fund. This has been and continues to be extremely successful in attracting new direct international flights to Scotland achieving considerable economic benefits. The image created by a high quality airport rail link is likely to assist this cause. To spread the economic benefits of the airport as far and wide as possible, any new railway service between Glasgow Airport and Glasgow city centre should provide maximum connectivity throughout Scotland. To attain maximum connectivity, airport rail passengers should have the option of travelling beyond the Glasgow metropolitan region. I take pleasure in providing support from SE for the proposed (GARL) scheme. However, to achieve maximum connectivity to other metropolitan regions within Scotland, we believe it is important to connect the airport to the wider Scottish population. To achieve this it will also be necessary to deliver Glasgow’s “cross-rail” scheme. If the Glasgow cross-rail project is not delivered, SE would prefer the airport rail link to connect directly to Queen Street Station rather than Central Station.

    Transport and Technology Collections 1 Introduction The Transport and Technology Collections reflect the leading role played by Glasgow and the West of Scotland in advances made in scientific enquiry and industrial production. The technology collections were first developed for the opening of the City Industrial Museum in 1870. This was intended to highlight the output of Glasgow’s industries and included samples and models from the important chemical, textile, locomotive and shipbuilding firms in the area. There were also examples of innovations in the making of optical and scientific instruments and communications technology. The museum displayed Glasgow’s civic pride in its scientific and industrial achievements and provided a prestigious front window for its products. It also played an important didactic role in teaching Glasgow’s young citizens about engineering and technology. Many of the collections were loaned and often replaced by newer more impressive exhibits. Even items formally acquired into this collection were regarded with the same spirit of renewal and were often discarded in favour of more representative examples of modern industry. Although much has been lost there is still much of great interest that has survived from the early days of the museum. This is partly as a result of industrial failure when loaned material from failed companies was retained and eventually assimilated into the core collections. Such a direct relationship between the city’s industries and the museum collections gives them an added degree of significance. This is particularly true of the outstanding ship and marine engineering models. The Clyde was at the forefront of revolutionary change in the shipbuilding industry so not only is the collection a truly representative sample of the Clyde’s output, it also represents an important period of ship design and building that is unsurpassed anywhere in the world.
