The Sentinel 2001 Tuesday, January 2, 2001 Elizabeth A. Gudeman Dec. 31, 1928 – Jan. 1, 2001 Elizabeth A. “Betty Anne” GUDEMAN, 72, died at 4:20 p.m. Monday at her Kewanna home. Born in Medaryville to Clifford and Mary RODGERS EMERICH, she married William Roe GUDEMAN at St. Henry’s Catholic Church in Medaryville on Feb. 14, 1950. He died Jan. 2, 1972. Mrs. Gudeman, a 1946 graduate of Medaryville High School, received an associate of art degree at Ancilla College in 1980. She was a homemaker and a member of St. Anne Catholic Church, Kewanna, where she was in the Altar and Rosary Society. She was a member of Kewanna Veterans of Foreign Wars Ladies Auxiliary, a Fulton County Emergency Medical Technician and a Cub Scout den mother. An avid seamstress who enjoyed painting and drawing, she traveled to Rome and received Communion from the pope. Survivors include two sons, Craig [GUDEMAN] and wife Beth, Plymouth; David [GUDEMAN], Rochester; two daughters, Rebecca GUDEMAN, Kewanna; Angela RIDENOUR and husband Roger, Plymouth; seven grandchildren, Adam and Jennifer GUDEMAN, Rachael and Charlotte RIDENOUR, Alexander GUDEMAN, Sarah GUDEMAN MORIARTY and Aaron BORDER; one sister, Rachel EMERICH, Francesville; two brothers, James EMERICH, Michigan City, and Allen BOSSE, Lowell. Preceding in death with her husband were one son, Dennis [GUDEMAN], one sister, Ruth RYAN and one brother, Harold EMERICH. Services are at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at St. Ann Catholic Church, Kewanna, with Rev. Joseph JACOB officiating. Burial is at St. Ann Cemetery. Friends may call from 4-8 p.m. Wednesday at Harrison-Metzger Funeral Home, Kewanna, where the rosary will be recited at 7:30 p.m. Memorials may be made to Mary Knoll Mission and Hospice. Richard Powell Baker March 6, 1919 – Dec. 29, 2000 Richard Powell BAKER, 81, 386 W., Fulton County Road 500 S., died at 10:55 p.m. Friday at Miller’s Merry Manor, Plymouth. Born in Macy to Virgil G. and Rachel D. POWELL BAKER, he married Vonda M. RENTSCHLER Feb. 1, 1948 in Fulton. She died Feb. 24. Mr. Baker owned and operated Baker Vault Co., Fulton, and was a licensed embalmer and a farmer. He was a 1937 graduate of Fulton High School and graduated from Indiana College of Mortuary Science. He served in Europe during World War II with the U.S. Army Air Corps. He was a member of Rochester I.O.O.F. Lodge. Survivors include three sons, Richard L.[BAKER] and wife Joan, Rochester; Gene R. [BAKER] and wife Shelley, Rochester; Jerry L. [BAKER] and wife Deborah, Rochester; one daughter, Beverly S. HILL and husband Dan, Marysville, Mich.; seven grandchildren; two stepgrandchildren; two great-grandchildren; three stepgreat-grandchildren; several cousins. Preceding in death with his wife were one grandson, Richard Andrew BAKER, one sister, Dorothy MAHER, one brother, Louis BAKER. Services were at 10 a.m. today at Zimmerman Bros. Funeral Home, Fulton, with Rev. George HAPNER officiating. Burial was at Fulton Cemetery. Janice M. Coffing April 6, 1929 – Dec. 31, 2000 Janice M. COFFING, 71, died at 10:10 a.m. Sunday at her Macy home following a year- long illness. Born in Rochester to Otto and Gertrude MORK MILLER, she married Winston “Wink” COFFING Dec. 31, 1948. He died Sept. 19, 1996. Mrs. Coffing, a lifetime resident of the Rochester and Macy areas, delivered mail in the Macy area for 23 years until retiring in 1990. She was a 1948 Rochester High School graduate. She was active in the Miami County Republican Women and a member of Macy Christian Church, Fulton County Chorus, Fulton County Players, Macy Order of the Eastern Star Post 124, Tri-Kappa Sorority, Rochester, where she was past vice-president of the Indiana State Pork Producers Association Ladies Organization. Survivors include one daughter, Deborah HAMMOND and husband Dwight, Gilead; two sons, Dale D. [COFFING] and wife Judith, Macy; Chris [COFFING] and wife Denise, Macy; six grandchildren, Brent COFFING and wife Debbie, Amy COPELAND and husband Mike, Chad GARRISON and wife Kristen, Sean GARRISON and wife Sarah, Trevor Hoagland and wife Chelsey COLEMAN; five great-grandchildren; two sister-in-laws, Sarah MILLER, Rochester; Ruth BURKE, Monticello. Preceding in death with her husband were her parents, one sister, Albiona HUTTON, one brother Richard MILLER. Services are at 11 a.m. Thursday at Foster & Good Funeral Home, Rochester, with Rev. David WELSH officiating. Burial is at Plainview Cemetery, Macy. Friends may call from 4-8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home and one hour prior to services. Macy Order of the Eastern Star Post 124 will conduct a memorial service at 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Richard D. LaGarde Jan. 4, 1916 – Dec. 30, 2000 Richard D. LaGARDE, 84. Silver Lake, died at 5:22 a.m. Saturday at his home. Born in Russiaville to Jess and Sofrona SMITH LaGARDE, he married Marjorie KRICHBAM Aug. 7, 1965 in Watseka, Ill. She survives. Mr. LaGarde was a manager at Farm Bureau Co-op, Warsaw, and a manager of First National Bank of Claypool. He was also with the public relations department at Explorer Vans, Warsaw. He was a member of Warsaw United Methodist Church, Warsaw, the Scottish Rite, Shrine Club, Warsaw Moose Lodge, a 52-year member of Masonic Lodge Post 73 and was active in Big Brothers/Big Sisters of Marshall County. Surviving with his wife, at home, are one daughter, Sheila BURNER, Warsaw; one son, James LaGARDE, Florida; five grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; one sister, Beatrice GRIMME, Claypool. Preceding in death were one sister, Phyllis GRIMME, and two brothers, Lowell [LaGARDE] and Robert LaGARDE. Services are at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at King Memorial Home, Mentone, with Rev. Terry McGARRITY officiating. Burial is at Oakwood Cemetery, Warsaw. Friends may call from 5-8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home, with Masonic Lodge Post 73 conducting a memorial service at 8 p.m. Helen M. Eckrote March 22, 1922 – Jan. 1, 2001 Former Rochester and New Castle resident Helen Mae (TALBERT) ECKROTE, 78, Pendleton, died Monday morning at Rawlins House Convalescent Center following an extended illness. She was born in Indianapolis to Guy Raymond and Susie CLAY TALBERT. Mrs. Eckrote retired from Woolworth’s Department Stores in Anderson and Logansport after 27 years. Survivors include two daughters, Sandra SIDWELL and husband Junior, Pendleton; Beverla TUTEROW and husband Gerald, Bradenton, Fla. two sons, Jerry [ECKROTE] and wife Darlene, Akron; Jerald [ECKROTE] and wife Kris, Pendleton; 11 grandchildren and 11 great- grandchildren. Preceding in death were her husband, Joe ECKROTE in 1986, one granddaughter, Tamera TUTEROW in 1984 and one sister, Beatrice MATTEWS. Services are at 11 a.m. Friday at Main and Frame Funeral Home, 2011 Broad St., New Castle. Burial is at Mt. Summit Cemetery, New Castle. Friends may call from 4-8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Samuel “Sam” Wright Samuel “Sam” WRIGHT, 82, 432 Railroad St., Argos, died Monday. Arrangements are pending at Grossman Funeral Home, Argos. Willis Dunnuck Willis DUNNUCK, 88, Denver, died Sunday in an automobile accident in Minnesota. Arrangements are pending at McClain Funeral Home, Denver. Patricia A. Burk Nov. 9, 1936 – Dec. 30, 2000 Patricia Ann BURK, 64, 7416 W., Fulton County Road 400 N., died at 3:50 p.m. Saturday at St. Joseph Regional Medical Center, South Bend. Born in Hammond to Dexter R. and Winsome ROBINSON, she married Billy Leroy BURK Nov. 19, 1966 in Lake County. He survives. Mrs. Burk, a homemaker, lived in Fulton County since 1991, coming from Hammond. Surviving with her husband, at home, are one daughter, Debra Ann AKES, Rochester; one son, Jerry FOUTS, Florida; five grandchildren; one sister, Geri BREW and husband Al, Hammond; two brothers, Rob ROBINSON and wife Joyce, Cedar Lake; Don ROBINSON and wife Nancy, Mississippi. Preceding in death were her parents and one son, William E. AKES on Dec. 14, 2000. No services or visitation are planned. Foster & Good Funeral Home, Rochester, is in charge of arrangements. Wednesday, January 3, 2001 Samuel Wright Dec. 16, 1918 – Jan. 1, 2001 Samuel WRIGHT, 82, 423 Railroad St., Argos, died at 3 a.m. Monday at his home. He had been in failing health for three months. Born in Perry County, Ky. to Rev. Moses and Elizabeth KENDRICK WRIGHT, he married Audrie HENSLEY Oct. 30, 1943 in Salyersville, Ky. She survives. Mr. Wright came to Argos in 1950. He was a saw mill laborer at the former Eley’s Saw Mill, Argos. He served in the U.S. Army in World War II and was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ, Argos. Surviving with his wife, at home, are six daughters, Helen EPLEY and husband John, Russellville, Ky.; Sandra SHORI and husband Kenneth, Tippecanoe; Elizabeth WRIGHT, Plymouth; Wanda LLOYD and husband Fred, Culver; Rita PENNINGTON and husband David, Argos; Janice WRIGHT, Lewisburg, Ky.; five sons, Harold [WRIGHT] and wife Joyce, Argos; John [WRIGHT], Argos; Jack [WRIGHT] and wife Sarah, Culver; Jamie [WRIGHT] and wife Brenda, Greenville, N.C.; Joseph [WRIGHT], Greenville, N.C.; 35 grandchildren; 35 great- grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; one sister, Nannie VIRES, Argos. Preceding in death were his parents, one daughter, Lorena FRITTER in 1998, three sisters, Mildie, Mary and Martha [WRIGHT[ , and three brothers, William, Morton and Charlie [WRIGHT]. Services are at 2 p.m. Thursday at The Church of Jesus Christ, 15676 Michigan Road, Argos, with Rev. Lloyd HOWARD officiating. Burial is at Maple Grove Cemetery, Argos.
