EC8.19 October 4, 2019 To: Chair and Members of the Economic and Community Development Committee: Re: Exploring the potential opportunity of Toronto becoming a host city of Formula E: the sustainable electric motorsport of the 21st century Dear colleagues, I am writing to request that we explore the potential to bring FormulaE to the City of Toronto. Formula E was conceived in 2011 by FIA (International Automobile Federation) President and former Scuderia Ferrari General Manager Jean Todt and Spanish businessman Alejandro Agag as the world's first all-electric international car racing platform. The first race was held in Beijing's Olympic Park in 2014, and has grown into a global entertainment brand with 11 teams and 22 drivers. There are multiple major international corporate sponsors and 9 global automobile manufacturers are engaged; including Jaguar, Nissan, BMW, Audi, DS (Peugeot), and Mahindra. Formula E describes its venue metropolises as being the 'most progressive' cities in the world, and they include New York, London, Paris, Berlin, Seoul, Jakarta, Rome, and Mexico City, among others. Formula E markets itself as a cutting edge catalyst to propel the latest electric vehicle design and research work, as well as improving driving experiences for everyday car users of all classes and types, all while providing incredible entertainment. As the capital city of North America's top auto-producing region with over 2.2 million vehicles assembled in 2017, Toronto has long benefited from the economic activity, employment, and tax revenue generated by the automobile sector. Over 200 companies in southern Ontario are developing autonomous vehicle technology, with our automobile sector employing over 100,000, and generating almost 20% of manufacturing GDP. -

REGISTRATION PROCEDURE FOR CAR MANUFACTURERS IN THE FIA FORMULA E WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP Seasons 7, 8 – V3.1 1. PREAMBLE The FIA Formula E World Championship (“The Championship”) is designed to be the flagship of the FIA’s sustainable strategy and the objective is to develop a multi-brand Championship. All Manufacturers capable of respecting the terms and conditions set out below shall be allowed to propose a Car for seasons 7, 8 by completing the attached form and returning it to the FIA by email (address: [email protected]@fia.com). Any registration made during the cycle (the cycle being seasons 7, 8 will grant the right to supply cars for the years remaining in the cycle only. A detailed description and any supporting documentation setting out all the relevant qualities and specifications of the Car proposed, together with evidence that it would be in compliance with the requirements set out in the Sporting and Technical Regulations as well as with the Safety Requirements, must be appended to the form. 2. DEADLINES Manufacturers interested in proposing their Car as of the relevant sporting season are invited to send a proposal by: Season 8: 1 February 2020 All Manufacturers proposing a car must make themselves available for possible meetings with the FIA to be held: Season 8: during the month of February 2020 On receipt of the form and after assessment of the proposals, the FIA will send confirmation of registration to the Manufacturers concerned by: Season 8: 28 February 2020 The registration will, however, only be valid and finalised if the Car is homologated by the FIA. -

Transition theory emphasizes that development of sustainable technologies such as EVs can be achieved within niches, which are protective spaces that shield sustainable technologies from mainstream market selection pressures. An interesting environment that has generally been known for innovative developments with regard to mobility has recently seen an increased usage of EVs. This environment is the motorsport. This paper therefore aims to identify the role that the electric motorsport as niche plays in the development of EVs for a transition towards a more sustainable mobility system. In order to fulfil this aim, a qualitative research approach was used where both semi-structured interviews and grey literature was analysed. The electrification of certain categories of the FIA World Rallycross Championship as well as the Extreme E were selected to exemplify the entire electric motorsport. The protective space conceptualisation of Smith and Raven (2012) that focuses on shielding, nurturing and empowering processes was used to conduct the analysis and describe the electric motorsport as a niche. The analysis showed that the electric motorsport as niche shows great capabilities of making contributions towards the development of EVs, but currently is not utilised to this potential. -

Extreme E Confirms Desert Location in Saudi Arabia
EXTREME E CONFIRMS DESERT LOCATION IN SAUDI ARABIA 31 October, Riyadh, Saudi Arabia: Extreme E has today named the third of its five race locations, confirming that the Desert leg of the new electric rally series will take place in Saudi Arabia, with a number of potential routes currently being examined. This report demonstrates how sustainability is integral to our business strategy and the values of Formula E. Throughout the inaugural season we have worked hard to measure and analyse data that covers all areas of Formula E. The results from these studies and assessments have been outlined in the following report and will form a new baseline from which we will measure and report on our future performance. Formula E has many reasons to feel proud of its sustainable credentials at the end of the first season. The sustainability report aims to openly outline the fact that we are acutely aware of our environmental impacts as a company and show that we are going to lengths to ensure the reduction of our footprint where possible. As the first electric motor racing championship in the world, it can be seen that sustainability is deeply rooted in the essence of Formula E. We have a vision to speak out to the new generation of sporting fans and discover solutions for environmental issues through the fusion of technology, sustainability and innovative entertainment. We share a belief that through our collaboration with some of the world’s leading companies, in and out of motor racing, we can revolutionise sustainable mobility and change perceptions towards a better future.
