Plusieurs réacteurs sont cependant engagés dans le processus réglementaire nécessaire à leur redémarrage, les premiers étant attendus en 2015. Peu de mises en chantier ont été relevées (poursuite des programmes engagés aux Emirats Arabes Unis et en Biélorussie), mais le chantier de CAREM25 en Argentine est à signaler puisqu’il s’agit du premier réacteur modulaire (SMR : Small Modular Reactor) en construction. Le nombre de chantiers en cours reste signifi catif avec plus de 60 constructions. Bilan sur la capacité mondiale installée La mise en service commercial de 7 réacteurs en Chine et 1 en Inde, tous des REP, enraye la baisse de capacité qui avait été constatée depuis 2011. Cette augmentation de capacité (+ 6,3 GWe) s’accompagne d’une augmentation de 60 TWh de la production électrique nucléaire. Au vu des programmes en cours, il est attendu que cette tendance se confi rme dans les années à venir, avec au moins 5 démarrages par an sur les trois prochaines années. Elecnuc - Edition 2015 - CEA 2 Main events in 2014 The situation in Japan has not evolved signifi cantly since 2012: all its nuclear power plants are idle and safety improvements are being carried out. Several plants, however, are going through the regulatory process required to restart —the fi rst to be implemented are expected in 2015. Few projects have been reported to be in the building phase (programs in the United Arab Emirates and in Belarus proceed), but the CAREM25 project is signifi cant as it is the fi rst SMR (Small Modular Reactor) to be built in the world. There is still a considerable number of ongoing building programs —i.e. more than 60 units. Assessing global installed capacity The commercial start of 7 reactors in China and 1 reactor in India —all of which are PWR—, offsets the decrease in installed capacity which began in 2011. This capacity increase (up 6.3 GWe) leads to an increase in nuclear electricity production (up 60 TWh). Considering the ongoing programs this trend should persist, as more than 5 commercial starts are expected each year for the next 3 years.     Potentials, costs and environmental assessment of electricity generation technologies 8 Wind power (onshore and offshore) Karin Treyer (Laboratory for Energy Systems Analysis, PSI) 8.1 Introduction and definitions Wind energy is the renewable energy source with the highest increase in installed capacity worldwide in the last years. The total capacity by the end of 2015 amounted to 435 GW, out of it 12 GW offshore (GWEC 2015, WWEA 2016). This covered about 3-5% of the world’s electricity needs.154 Wind power is supposed to have a huge potential in the electricity supply in many countries, and is supported by manifold governmental incentives. Windmills have been making use of the kinetic energy of wind for centuries now. Starting with pumping water or grinding grain, these mills have developed in the late nineteenth century to produce electricity (Burton, Jenkins et al. 2011). The first wind turbines showed capacities of 5 to 10 kW, developing to a 1 MW turbine in 1941 in Vermont, US.155 The 1980ties came along with intensive research in the wind sector due to increased oil prices, which led to wind turbines of about 4 MW capacity. The latest wind turbines demonstrate capacities of up to 8 MW on- and offshore. 156 The first offshore wind farm was commissioned in 1991 with a total capacity of 5 MW (Burton, Jenkins et al. 2011). In 2015, the largest offshore wind parks are located in the United Kingdom with installed capacities of 500 to 630 MW.157 In the following some definitions are given. The harvest of electrical energy with a wind turbine is possible due to rotation of blades using kinetic energy from moving air.
