This can be comfortably said looking at the fact that Madhya Pradesh lies third after Jharkhand and Chhattisgarh. • Undivided MP was in fact first in Mineral production in India. At present 23 minerals are being found in the state. The state is famous for its traditional handicrafts and handloom cloth manufactured in Chanderi and Maheshwari. • Madhya Pradesh is known as Soya state , Tiger State, Leopard State , Gharial State etc. • As much as 49% of the land area is cultivable. Recently the state has bagged prestigious Krishi Karman Award for fifth year and this sector has contributed significantly to states prosperity and development. Foundation day 1 November, 1956 Reorganization day 1 November, 2000 HISTORICAL DEVELOPMENT • King Asoka, first of all ruled over Ujjain. • A sizable portion of Central India was part of the Gupta Empire (300 -500A.D.). • The Muslims came into Central India in the beginning of 11thcentury. • First of all, Mahmud Ghazni came over here and the Mohammad Gouri, who incorporated some parts of the Central India into the ruling territory of Delhi. • Central India was also part of the Mughal Empire. • During the period between the beginning of the influence of Marathas and the death of Madhoji Scindia in 1794, Marathas were on the ascendant in Central India but later on the small states started coming into existence. • These small states become the cause of perpetuation of British power in the country. • Queen Durgawati and Rani Ahilyabai Holkar of Indore, the Gond Maharani Kamalapati etc. were women rulers whose names have left an indelible mark on Indian history for their outstanding rule. • Madhya Pradesh came into being on 1st November 1956. • In its present form it was reorganized on 1st November 2000 to create a new Chhattisgarh State.     DYNAMIC GROUND WATER RESOURCES OF MADHYA PRADESH (As on March, 2015) 1.0 INTRODUCTION 1.1 Background Madhya Pradesh is located in the central part of India or metaphorically, the heart of India. The State of Madhya Pradesh is a land-locked State, bordered on the west by Gujarat, on the northwest by Rajasthan, on the northeast by Uttar Pradesh, on the east by Chhattisgarh, and on the south by Maharashtra(Figure-1). It has a geographical area of 3,08,252 Sq. km. and is situated between north latitudes 21° 04' and 26° 54' and east longitudes 74° 00' and 82° 50'. There are 51 districts and 313 Community Development blocks in Madhya Pradesh. The population of state as per census 2011 is 7.27 crores with a population density of 236 persons per sq.km area. Out of total population, 72.37% is rural. The important urban areas in the State are Bhopal, Indore, Jabalpur, Ujjain and Gwalior. Dhupgarh in Pachmarhi is on 1350 m amsl which is the highest elevation point in the state. Madhya Pradesh comprises several linguistically and culturally distinct regions, of which the major regions are: Malwa - A plateau region in the northwest of the state, north of the Vindhya Range, with its distinct language and culture. Indore is the major city of the region, while Ujjain is a town of historical importance. Bhopal, the capital city, lies on the extension of Malwa Region and on the edge of Bundelkhand region. Nimar (Nemar): the western portion of the NarmadaRiver valley, lying south of the Vindhyas in the southwest portion of the state.

In Madhya Pradesh, out of 313 blocks, 23 blocks extended to over exploited category, 09 blocks are in critical stage and 57 blocks are in semi critical stage (MP Dynamic Ground Water Assessment, 2015). As per rules of CGWB, the areas where the water level could not recuperated upto 3m depth after the monsoon K e yw or ds season, will essential artificial recharge. The solution lies in harvesting rainwater in farmers‟ field which are kept or left fallow for one reason or another. Though, all Groundwater these fields may not be good enough to recharge groundwater like percolation tanks recharge, Kharif but transfer water well below at least @4 mm/day even in clayey soils. So, to decide fallow, Priority which area is to be taken first in present study a method of identification of priority is Article Info proposed. Four basic criteria to decide the priority namely, amount of annual rainfall, the soil type, stage of ground water development stage and extent of kharif fallow.

Odisha govt inks LoU for 'drink from tap mission' with UNICEF In a bid to provide quality drinking water to every urban household in the state, Odisha has inked a Letter of Understanding (LoU) on "drink from tap mission" with the United Nations Children's Fund UNICEF. According to the Housing and Urban Development Department, UNICEF will provide technical cooperation to the government of Odisha for implementation of the "drink from tap" program which aims at providing piped quality drinking water supply to each household on a 24-hour basis, in first phase 1.20 lakh people are going to benefit. "Investment in water is a critical layer of foundation to make Odisha a healthy society and eventually a productive state," Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik said. 2. Disabled voters, people older than 80 years can now vote through postal ballot The disabled and people over 80 years of age can now cast their vote through postal ballot, the government said, in a move that will help increase voter turnout. At present, voting through postal ballot is available to armed forces and those assigned poll duties. On the recommendation of the Election Commission, the Ministry of Law and Justice has amended the Conduct of Election Rules, 1961, allowing senior citizens and person with disabilities in the absentee voter list. 3. With Theme ‘Integrity-A Way of Life’ MIA launches ‘Vigilance Awareness Week’ from 28 Oct-2 Nov Central Vigilance Commission (CVC) will be observing the Vigilance Awareness Week from October 28 to November 2 on a theme of ‘Integrity- A way of Life’.
