www.charlottetown .ca GREETINGS FROM MAYOR PHILIP BROWN

As winter changes to spring, the City of Charlottetown is happy to unveil a multitude of activities for our citizens to enjoy and take part in. We continue to working towards making our community more inclusive and inviting for residents and visitors alike, with programs and activities for all ages, ability levels, and interests.

This year, we encourage the public to try something new and get active. Enjoy a guided walking tour, join an organized sport, or attend one of the many events held in the capital City. We are lucky to live in such a walkable city, where active transportation is a leisure activity and the waterfront is accessible throughout the downtown core.

On behalf of City Council, we wish to extend a heartfelt thank you to all the organizations, City staff, and volunteers that make these programs, events, and activities possible. The level of community involvement is what makes the City of Charlottetown such a great place to live with so many unique things to offer. A special thank you to the Parks and Recreation Department for making this Program Brochure possible and providing residents with an information packed adventure guide.

Residents are encouraged to continue to share feedback and suggestions regarding our programing, activities and events.

Health and Happiness,

Mayor Philip Brown [email protected]

2019 Summer Schedule

Kronborg – The Hamlet Rock Opera | June 21 – July 20, 2019 | Homburg Theatre | 1 p.m. / 8 p.m. A ghostly visitor with a secret; a son devastated by loss; a deadly sword duel – and the most famous question in all of drama (“To be or not to be…”) These are just some of the reasons why Shakespeare’s iconic tragedy turned musical will hold you spellbound. Add in a thrilling rock opera score, a cast of 28 stellar Canadian actors, and a full orchestra, and you have all the makings of an intoxicating musical experience.

Anne of Green Gables – The Musical™ | June 24 – September 28, 2019 | Homburg Theatre | 1 p.m. / 7:30 p.m. The Charlottetown Festival’s crown jewel musical returns for its 55th consecutive summer, a testament to the global appeal of “a classic inspired by a classic”. This is the enduring story of an orphan girl who came from away and changed the Island forever.

Mama Mia! | August 8 – September 28, 2019 | Homburg Theatre | 1 p.m. / 8 p.m. A mother, a daughter, three possible dads; and a trip down the aisle you’ll never forget! Back to the Festival by popular demand, it’s Mamma Mia!

Spinning Yarns | July 15 – September 28, 2019 | The Mack | 8 p.m. Newfoundland in the early ‘80s: a world of raucous adventures, death-defying escapades, and dubious childcare! This hilarious evening of story and song is a fictionalized biography written and performed by Festival favourite, Stephen Guy-McGrath (‘Bill’ in Mamma Mia!; ‘Sam Phillips’ in Million Dollar Quartet; ‘René’ in Evangeline)

Atlantic Blue | July 26 – September 28, 2019 | The Mack | 7:30 p.m. Join Juno-nominated singer-songwriter and beloved Prince Edward Islander, Tara MacLean, as she takes you on her musical journey home. A gifted vocalist, performer, and storyteller, Tara explores the deep roots of the Atlantic Canadian music scene, breathing new life and emotion into treasured songs from such East Coast legends as Gene MacLellan, Gordie Sampson, Sarah MacLachlan, Stan Rogers, The Rankin Family, Rita MacNeil, and many more.
