Notably, over two hundred passage tombs, though of lesser scale and sophistication than Newgrange, are pre-agrarian human worlds also found in Ireland. These less investigated, and potentially more ancient monuments, reveal that the origins of Newgrange may in fact be hidden in plain sight. In this book Robert Hensey uncovers an untold history of Karen Hardy and Newgrange; an island-wide story of incremental changes in passage tomb construction and Lucy Kubiak Martens design over hundreds of years. From small-scale monuments built by early farming groups; to potent otherworld centres of ritual training at the edge of society; eventually to temple-like monuments standing at the very heart of the STUDYING SCIENTIFIC ARCHAEOLOGY 2 religious and political sphere in Neolithic Ireland. Challenging both orthodox archaeological and popular opinion, this will be an important book for anyone interested in Neolithic archaeology.
