    Board games from the city of Vijayanagara (Hampi), 1336-1565: a survey and a study / Rangachar Vasantha ustere and grandiose Hampi is the site of the last capital of the last great Hindu kingdom of Vijayanagara, whose rich kings built Dravidian temples and palaces, Awhich won the admiration of travelers between the 14th and 16th centuries. Conquered by the Muslims in 1565, the city was pillaged over a period of six months, and then abandoned. The greater parts of the more interesting buildings are situated in the citadel or inner- most line of fortifications and also along the roadside to Hampi. The crowded buildings hint at the centuries-old heritage of the village, for it is some 450 years since Hampi’s grandeur came to an end as the center of the Vijayanagara Empire. The present day vil- lage preserves the ancient order while its inhabitants reap the benefits of being a living example of old peaceful ways. The Mohammedan invasion and especially the employ- ment of Mohammedan troops by the Vijayanagara kings led to Saracenic features being adopted in some of the buildings in their capital, producing an Indian version of that style known as Indo-Saracenic. The Vijayanagar capital was probably at first situated at Anegundi on the northern bank of the Tungabhadra river nearly opposite the present hamlet of Hampi. As the empire grew in size and power, the capital was moved to the southern bank of the river and Anegundi was retained as a fortified suburb or outpost. The cultural remains of the imperial city of Vijayanagara now spread over a vast area of about 25 km covering several modern villages, while the outer lines of its fortifications include still a larger area.

The Kāvyas(poetic works) written in the south Indian language Kannada have description of dance, music and musical instruments in them. The Kannada Kāvyasare studied under three categories. JainaKāvya,VeerashaivaKāvya,and VaidikaKāvya.Studying them givestwofold view. The deep knowledge of the concerned poets about the triads (dance, music and musical instruments) and also the types of dances, music and the musical instruments prevalent during that time. Present day Adavu has taken many names and many forms over centuries. The aim of the paper is to trace the journey of the various terminologies used through history in Kannada poetic works starting from the 10th Century to the 17th Century, spanning seven centuries, in relation to the evolution of Adavu. Research work on the Krsna theme is not new. It could be said that people have worked more on Krsna than any other character in Indian religion. The origin of the Krsna legend itself is a much discussed subject. Many scholars have convincingly argued that the origin of the later Krsna theme has its roots in the Vedas, and have furnished suitable examples. And it is said that the Visnu of the Vedic period led to the formation of the Vaisnava cult which later became famous by the name Bhagavata cult. The theory of Avatara, the personality of Krsna in the Mahabharata in the later Puranas and, the many attributes he was given in these all show some resemblance to the character of the Vedic Visnu.• * Thus Krsna* » < was considered the incarnation of Lord Visnu, and the Bhagavadgita played a major part in this regard.

Textbooks are prepared in 12 languages; seven of them serve as the media of instruction. From standard 1 to 4 there is the EVS, mathematics and 5th to 10th there are three core subjects namely mathematics, science and social science. NCF – 2005 has a number of special features and they are: • connecting knowledge to life activities • learning to shift from rote methods • enriching the curriculum beyond textbooks • learning experiences for the construction of knowledge • making examinations flexible and integrating them with classroom experiences • caring concerns within the democratic policy of the country • making education relevant to the present and future needs. • softening the subject boundaries- integrated knowledge and the joy of learning. • the child is the constructor of knowledge The new books are produced based on three fundamental approaches namely. Constructive approach, Spiral Approach and Integrated approach The learner is encouraged to think, engage in activities, master skills and competencies. The materials presented in these books are integrated with values. The new books are not examination oriented in their nature.published On the other hand they help the learner in the all round development of his/her personality, thus help him/her become a healthy member of a healthy society and a productive citizen of this great country, India.
