Alors que les développeurs de GNOME s’attellent à préparer la nouvelle version de leur projet d’environnement de bureau, on sait d’ores et déjà que celui-ci devrait intégrer un certain nombre de nouveautés. L’un des changements majeurs apportés par GNOME 3.8 sera l’abandon du « fallback mode » qui risque de faire beaucoup de bruit. En dehors de cela, bon nombre d’appli- cations auront droit à un certain nombre d’améliorations telles que GNOME Clocks, le client mail Evolution, le navigateur web Epiphany ou encore le player Totem... On pourra également noter l’intégration de la plateforme de stockage en ligne open source ownCloud. La version finale de GNOME 3.8 est attendue pour le 27 mars prochain. Avec sa mouture suivante, le projet fera un bon avant puisque celle-ci devrait se voir estampiller 4.0. À l’heure où vous lirez ces lignes, vous pourrez sans doute découvrir Linux Mint 14 « Nadia ». Cette nouvelle version de cette distribution populaire basée sur Ubuntu comprend quelques changements intéressants. Du côté de l’édition Cinnamon, on pourra désormais profiter d’une session en 2D, d’un nouveau gestionnaire de fichiers (Nemo, un fork de Nautilus), d’améliorations et de nouveautés au niveau des applets, etc. Bon nombre d’autres changements sont évidem- ment à signaler (un gestionnaire de paquets revu, un gestion- Testez facilement naire de fichiers qui prend en charge le service de stockage en ligne Dropbox du côté de l’édition MATE...). Modern IT relies upon a complicated mix of people, networks, and hardware, as such a green computing initiative must be systematic in nature, and address increasingly sophisticated problems. Green computing is the utmost requirement to protect environment and save energy along with operational expenses in today’s increasingly competitive world. Green technology focuses on reducing the environmental impact of industrial processes and innovative technologies caused by the Earth’s growing population. It has taken upon itself the goal to provide society’s needs in ways that do not damage the natural resources. This means creating fully recyclable products, reducing pollution, proposing alternative technologies in various fields, and creating a center of economic activity around technologies that benefit the environment. The huge amount of computing manufactured worldwide has a direct impact on environment issues, and scientists are conducting numerous studies in order to reduce the negative impact of computing technology on our natural resources.
